"The lab stuff is nice and all, but first two priorities, I hope there is a very good medical facility for Windchill. That jaw looks really bad and needs to be reset and given time to heal. He is definately going to need some good painkillers. However, the second part for him is that he got an involuntary kick injection, and he's crashing hard. I've never seen anything that addictive. While he's healing, he's also going to be detoxing, and likely is going to need to be restrained. I don't like it, but I don't think we have a choice. We need to closely monitor those painkillers as well. He's already shown addiction to one substance, let's not get him hooked on another.
Second Priority, is how this assassin is going to be contained. If he was able to do all that damage back there, even restrained, he could be big trouble. Some kind of temporary power nullification might be helpful. I'm not sure I like him still being in the city. Somewhere more remote where he can't do as much damage would be preferable to Angel tower in the long run."

Solo asks Vendetta if its okay if he teleports his bike to the roof of angel towers. If Vendetta agrees Solo goes and touches the bike and teleports it to the given coordinates.

Arc considers Windchill. "Poor kid."
Arc looks at Deadpool, still flash frozen solid within a chunk of ice.
"Whatever caused everyone to fall asleep back in the Lower East Side was psionic in nature. What knocked them out will be easy enough to track once we get enough delta wave readings and collate it with the data Flashdance is collecting. We're not so much concerned with what knocked them out as much as where their minds went while unconscious. Dreams contains portals to different levels of reality, or so I'm told. That's more Vigil's territory. Try not to creep out about his eye. He's going to interview each of you, and then I'll show you around your new base."
"ATHQ, we're ready to land."
"Roger that. Bring 'em home Arc."

Solo appears atop Angel Tower Two with Vendetta's mangled bike, near a helicopter pad and freight elevator.
Men in Paladin Institute tunics rush over and begin examining the wrecked bike, murmuring to themselves. "Look at that hydrogen extraction fuel conversion system! I'd seen prototypes but this baby could probably run on bath water! Whoever designed this sucker is one smart..."
"Vigil! We weren't expecting you to come up out of the basement."
The man in the dark cloak with a glowing white eye merely nods at the technicians and says "I merely wished to meet our new colleagues personally" as he approaches Solo.
"I sense its residue upon you, but you no longer have one of the Jacobs' Amulets?" he asks Solo. "This is a setback. Hopefully the other one Arc and your teammates are bringing will assist our research."
Then, as an afterthought, he extends a hand to Solo. "I am called Vigil. You are Lieutenant James Bourne, former soldier of the United States Army, implanted with teleportation technology somewhat derivative from stolen designs prototyped by classified parts of the Paladin Institute. Framed for a betrayal of your black operations team, you've taken it upon yourself to combat terrorism. You do mercenary work for the Symkarian government. So do we, sometimes. You're among friends here."
Vigil's voice trails off as a Paladin Institute helicopter begins to land on the rooftop, carrying Arc, Oldschool, Vendetta, Shockwave, the frozen Deadpool, the unconscious Windchill, a bunch of crates of packaged equipment, and a hiding Rin (who's largely forgotten about unless he makes his presence known).
"Get that block of ice to sub-level Six." Vigil commands to some Paladin technicians. "Arc, bring our new friends to the conference room on the 23rd floor."
With that, Vigil steps into a stairwell, departing as mysteriously as he appeared.
A tall, athletically built man with spiky black goth / emo hair steps out of the co-pilot's seat of the helicopter, approaching Solo with a smile on his face.
"Solo! You don't remember me. Cameroon, August 2008. JIHAD ammo depot. Sky-high explosion. I was on the assigned intel support team while you were doing all the wetwork for Sable. Call me Glitch."

Oldschool hands off the assassin and wipes the moisture from his body. He looks down and shakes his head.
A sad state of affairs, this...
His shirt and shoes are destroyed. He never got a chance to make sure Reen was able to make it home. The young, Windchill was still out like a light and to top things off, he really had no idea what was going on and why they were here.
He wondered how long he had been out of commision. So many things were different.
Kicking his destroyed shoes off and tearing the mangled shirt away, Oldschool moved to give Shockwave a hand, offering to carry his team mate as they followed Arc.

The block of ice containing Deadpool is loaded onto a freight elevator, along with Vendetta's bike. Arc asks everyone to follow her, and gets on the elevator. Two Paladin Institute technicians bring forth a gurney for Windchill, and wheel him into the freight elevator. As everyone descends down the elevator, it stops on the top floor, the 25th floor. The doors open, revealing a large mechanics bay with all manner of industrial tools and computer equipment. Seen on a work bench in a garage bay are the scattered parts of the disassembled Dreadnought robots. Vendetta's bike is wheeled off the elevator here. Arc says "Level 25. The top floor. Vehicle maintenance and mechanical engineering section. The top six floors of this building are your new home." The doors close, and after a brief descent, the elevator opens again. "Level 24, living quarters. This is your stop for now. The rooms used to be barracks style, two or three agents per room. We've cleared out the extra furniture, making each room private. Shall we?" Arc commands the technicians to take Windchill down to "Level 21." Glitch says "Smell you later!" as the elevator doors close behind the heroes. Arc hands magnetic stripe key cards to everyone. "These will grant access to the top six floors (levels 20 - 25), the rooftop, and the lobby level. Each of your rooms has a shower, toilet, entertainment center, computers with internet access... nice accomodations to make you feel at home." With some hesitation, she adds, "A lot better than the last team that stayed here had it." Arc shows everyone to their rooms, which are stocked with a small wardrobe of civilian clothing and shoes, mostly off the rack and in the size of the person assigned to the room. Much of the decor on this floor is a retro fashion time warp, like new, but definitely from the late 1970s / early 1980s. The doors slide open into the walls like Star Trek when a magnetic card is passed through a sensor panel next to them. Arc explains. "Level 25 is the mechanical engineering lab. Level 24 is your living space, complete with kitchen and living area. Level 23 is the operations center. There's a recreation area there and a library. We'll set up your Paladin e-mail accounts later, but the servers are on that floor. The communications center, situation room, and conference room is on Level 23 as well. We'll be meeting with Vigil there later." Arc goes to a window and touches it, and the view changes colors slightly and ripples. "Don't try to go out the windows. They're not real. They're full 3D holographic representations in real-time of what's going on outside. The Paladin Institute shielded this building from nuclear attack back in the 1950s. Used to be closed circuit TV camera monitors, but the last team complained that it felt like a prison. The holograms are the closest thing to a window to the outside you're going to get in the towers. There's around five feet of reinforced concrete between the inside and outside facade of the towers. If you need fresh air, the environmental controls in your rooms can provide it. If you absolutely, positively must go outside, please use the stairs or the elevator. Blast plating is expensive to repair." "Make yourselves at home. We'll meet with Vigil in two hours. Solo? Could you take me back to the homeless shelter in a while? I want to check on Flashdance, and you can get Elixir." With that, Arc heads for the elevator, leaving the heroes in their new ultra-secure "home." ooc: I don't know what Rin is doing, but he can wander around until he gets "caught" ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Oldschool is overwhelmed. He didn't know how the team had managed to make such a contact, but he was impressed.
He almost dropped Shockwave when he seen the Mechanic level. True, there was dust and debris, but the idea that he might actually get to work on something stirred his blood as nothing had recently.
He could see the milling machines, the drill presses, welders and cutting torches. Even if that's all the equipment the level had, he'd be in his glory. The Dreadnaughts and Vendetta's bike were just begging to be worked on.
Mike Sherman's mind raced with the possibilities. Who needed to see the rest? He'd have thrown a sleeping bag down and called it home already, if Arc had not closed the huge door to the cargo elevator.
The residential level was impressively big. While the decor was something that brought back memories of his childhood and parents, it seemed functionable. Huge bay windows gave a more than impressive view of the city.
Oldschool grinned when this Arc said that they had their own rooms. It had been a long time since he had his own room.
The kitchen and dining area were large and serviceable as well. They looked like they hadn't been used in awhile, but everywhere he looked Paladin technicians and workers scurried back and forth working on things.
Mike tried not to think negative, but surely, it seemed, there would be a price to pay for all of this. Nothing in life was free.
Thankfully, the technological intriguement of both the windows and doors was too difficult to ignore and he was lost to musing about their mechanics.
"Well, SW, what do you want to do?," he said to his team mate, Shockwave. "Do you want to find your room or head down to this Medical area? Do you need a hand getting out of your armor? The sooner you get it off, the sooner we can get fixing it. Between you and me, I think I know Vendetta and if we can get him assisting, he's no slouch in the lab. We'll get you up and running fast."
"I gotta get a change of clothes and maybe a shower if the plumbing's working before this meeting but I'll get you set up before I do."

as the doors open to floor 25, and the tech's cart off his bike, he tells them "just store it in there, I'll do the repairs myself, probably with some help from Shockwave and Oldschool, and if I find out any of your people have worked on it I'll make sure that person will be extremely sorry." then as he looks past the technitians, Vendetta clearly sees at least one of the things he has been working on, an EVAC (Exoskeletal Vac-Suit), standing in the shop, he frowns underneath his mask. "Ok I asked nicely before, and I'm asking nicely again - 'how did you get a hold of my work from my personal workshop' - Don't make me ask a third time - you would not enjoy it, and neither would I...." /ooc below I've added a pic of what the suit will look like finished if you disregard the big gun as he hasnt got the skills to make guns yet - its far from finished now however ooc/ ![](http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/7448/stealthplus.jpg)

In answer to Vendetta's question about how the Paladin Institute aquired the EVAC suit, Arc joked "Same way Michael Jackson got the bassline for Billie Jean from a Hall and Oates song. We stole it."
Arc let the words ring in Vendetta's ears, but only just to yank his chain.
"Well, it was a firesale price, anyway. The design is yours, but the property was technically Stark International's after they... what's the technical term... after they screwed Sherman Industries. We got it on auction price. It's just a shell. Looks like most of the nifty gadgets it had were removed."

Vendetta frowned even more as Arc spoke - when he got to the room which was assigned to him, he went and laid down on the bed staring at the ceiling, trying to figure out what exactly was going on here.

Shockwave politely turns down Oldschool's offer. "I'm fine. Elixer's power worked wonders on the leg. Now I just need to repair the armor. I'll be good as new, really."
Upon seeing the dreadnoughts in the workshop, Shockwave takes the time to check the status of them to see if they were pretty much in the state they were left in. "My plan is to take out the lethal weapons, replace them with non-lethal armaments, and upgrade the AI. I can't say I'm an expert on AI, but what they have is pretty simple right now, so there isn't much of anywhere to go but up. Standard armament for one of these models is a flame projector, knuckle spikes, electrical fields, gamma ray projectors, and freon gas. I'd like to replace the freon with a sleeping agent. We can likely salvage the delivery systems, and taking out the sleeping gas should actually take up less space in the unit since it eliminates all of the insulation and cooling units. The electrical field could be lowered in intensity to create a taser, enough to stop someone, but hopefully not enough to be lethal. Rubber spikes over the metal onces should give us an effect like rubber riot bullets. Of course those will need to be custom made. Although I'm not sold on it, a sonic stunner might be an option over the flames. Maybe some quick hardening chemical to trap people might be better. Stun rays sound better to me than gamma rays."
Shockwave turns to Vendetta and Old School, "Any of those projects interest either of you? Of course, better ideas are also welcome."

"sure I'll help" Vendetta said "not sure about tha AI upgrade - give 'em too much free will and who knows what they deside to do. As for the nonleathal weaponry - I think we could just substitute the spikes with beanbags, the cops have used those for ages in shotguns and they have a good takedown capability. I'll have to get to work on my bike as well - and see what the idiots at Stark did to my poor EVAC. As for your armour - I'll take a look, I know Oldschool and I have worked together before. If there is time I'll have to work on a few upgrades for my own armour as well... I have a few ideas for improvements that won't be too hard or take very long to make."

Examining the workshop area proves irresistable to the team's brains, and so Shockwave, Vendetta, and Oldschool head back up stairs to Level 25 with a swipe of their new card keys. The doors to the stairwell open with the swipe of one card, but as the other two begin to enter the stairwell there is an electronic beep followed by an annoying computer voice announcement: [Please do not piggyback upon access. All Paladin personnel are required to swipe their access cards at each secured door. Thank you. Have a pleasant day.]And then, a bored voice comes over an unseen intercom speaker. "Security Desk. Everything okay up there? Oh, sorry. The system hasn't been updated to recognize your biometrics yet. Use the cards until Arc gets you in the system. Been having false alarms lately." ooc: assuming Rin is exploring the building in inviso-mode... see next post ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) The workshop level is a mechanical engineer's dream of heaven. There's tools for just about any type of electronics and mechanical work imaginable, including robotics, vehicular, and power armor work. The frame of Vendetta's bike is mangled enough to make the bike unrideable. Shockwave's Dreadnought robot parts collection is sorted into their various parts, even the screws and bolts are sorted and catalogued. Nothing is missing. A laptop computer terminal near them displays schematics of all known Dreadnought designs in the SHIELD R&D database, the files are obviously hacked and retrieved by someone very skilled with computers. A Paladin technician walks up and says "Don't mess with Glitch's laptop. He's rather territorial about his stuff. He was working on figuring out those thing's customized hive AI architecture, trying to figure out who designed it. Seems to be a hybrid of several old HYDRA robotics projects, but Glitch'll have to give you the details on that." Vendetta's EVAC armor is mostly gutted of its Stark Industries owned internal components. ===== Around an hour after the chopper left with his teammates, Elixir is sweeping the floors of the homeless shelter. Traffic outside is moving again, but there's still many wrecks and fires here and there. Superheroes from all over the city have pitched in to open up arteries of traffic so that emergency vehicles could get in. It's still a big mess, but traffic is at least beginning to move. After a while, a large station wagon shows up with two men wearing red suits and top hats and a woman in a red shawl. The woman gasps when she sees the sheet covering Spellbound, and begins to wail in sadness. The two men in tophats comfort her. The Paladin technicians monitoring Flashdance continue to take readings from him with their equipment.
