I'm Dead Sidekick from the CMF forums. Just dropping a note to say I'm signed up here. Still trying to decide what character I'm gonna submit to play and how I'd tweak it for "this" universe. And toss my hat in the ring as a possible Judge's assistant, though I'd rather be bashing bad guys than putting heroes in deathtraps and mocking them. Well, that's fun too, actually. I'm leaning towards submitting a ::darker:: version of Batman, financing / supporting an Outsiders team on the side. Not sure if this Bats would be a Justice League founder / member.

Hello, Dead Sidekick. My name's Chris. I'll be playing (presuming Judge TasK accepts my proposal), the newest generation of Flashes in the DC Universe, Jay Garrick's adopted son, Chris Garrick. It's very nice to meet you!
Maybe Chris and your Batman can meet at one of the big JLA/JSA bashes they seem to hold every once in a while. Though your Batman might be a bit on the scary side for my guy...he's still a young'un! ;D
Your friend,
Chris

Hi folks! My name's Mike and I've been lurking around for a bit working up to introducing myself to you all It looks like you've got a nice site and good thing going here, and I'm definitely interested in joining in the fun! Anyway, a few things about me. I'm married, have 4 children, have been gaming for decades, have a great group of local friends to game with every couple of weeks or so. I work in project management so I tend to be online quite a bit. Looking forward to hearing from you all! Mike.

Hi Mike. Welcome to the site.
I'm another person involved in project management and consulting. (If you haven't noticed from my posting, I'm online pretty much all the time as a result, and I get enough short breaks during the day that I get a lot of chances to check the board.)
Are you planning to create a gang wars character, or just around for OOC conversation?
I think the age demographic fits right in. I think that we likely have one of the oldest groups of gamers I've ever seen on an online game, which I have to say has been rather refreshing. (I think solo is the youngling at 27.) Not that we'd discriminate by age, but it's certainly been a different experience than I usually see with games full of teenagers.

I'd love to join in the gang wars sessions, but it also depends on Dead Sidekick's timing for working in another character. Plus that would give me some time to bounce around a character.
Mike.

I figure gang wars will be going on for months (maybe years). It's actually based on a 3 module set, and we are still in the first day of action for the module. (Well since it's now past midnight, it's probably the second day.) Of course you'll need to work stuff out with DS on whether things will work, but I probably wouldn't wait until after Gang Wars finishes to start working on a character. Depending on how tough this mutant dragon thingy is, I'd suspect just this fight would take at least another week real time to get through.

Hey Mike, Welcome to the forums. Any journey begins with the first step. First step; get a character concept together and either post it here for Dead Sidekick to review or Private Message him. That way DSk (Dead Sidekick) can help you realize the character you want and you can help him by showing how your character may fit into the campaign, after he sees your character idea. Hopefully there's room for more players, but ultimately it's DSk's call. It's all about his comfort level and I, for one don't want to mess with the job he'd been doing because he's been doing a stellar job running this campaign. There's only one guarantee, brother... that if you don't submit a character (or character idea) then you'll definitely not be roleplaying in this campaign, lol. Don't be afraid to 'bounce' ideas off of the other members either. It's a good group here, someone might just be able to give you an idea or the right feedback that makes a world of difference. Hopefully we'll be roleplaying together soon! TasK

Howdy Mike,
I'll vouch that this is an extremely well run campaign - I almost feel like I'm at a table again with this group

I'm starting to tear up ::sniffle:: This is by far the best effort and best time I've ever had at running an online MSHRPG campaign, and all of the players are doing most of the hard work in making it an awesome game. Like Flashdance said, I feel like we're all around a table gaming together. All that's missing is a bowl of snacks and Mom yelling offstage about the mess we've made of the dining room table. To give the Reader's Digest version of what's going on, we're in the 5th chapter of a 38 chapter book that is the first part of the Gang Wars Trilogy. We're going to be gaming and growing for the foreseeable future. I've set this Gang Wars Trilogy campaign in a combined Marvel and DC universe setting I've put a few years of work into tweaking in both tabletop and online gaming. So, we're really playing the Gang Wars Trilogy "Plus." I'm tweaking things in the original campaign module as we go along, adding things, subtracting things, making things that happen in other chapters happen earlier or later, etc. In the original module, Felicia Bifrost and Johnny Bifrost are twins. I've dumped Johnny Bifrost (though we may see him later) and promoted Felicia from a Met Museum cafeteria waitress to an Assistant Curator, and given her a son "Tommy Bifrost" who is loosely based on the original Johnny Bifrost from the module. I've added a sub-plot about a new illegal drug that grants super-powers called "Kick" that is loosely based on the drug of the same name from the X-Men comics and the people that injected Kryptonite into themselves to gain powers in the TV show Smallville. I've also expanded the impending / currently brewing full-scale "Gang War" to include other Marvel gangs and terrorist groups, as well as post-Crisis DC universe gangs and terrorist groups. Timeline-wise, the game time is roughly October 2009, coming up on Halloween, but the storylines from Marvel and DC going on in the "background" are drawn from Marvel and DC Comics published circa 1982 - 1984. The Beyonder's first Secret War series has not happened yet. The most recent "Marvel" event is the funeral of Captain Mar-Vell, and the recent event from the DC Universe coming up is Lucius Fox being kidnapped in Markovia and Batman "quitting" the Justice League to form the international law breaking Outsiders to save him and go after Baron Bedlam. The X-Men are going to start recruiting the students that become the New Mutants around this time as well. Some of those "external" storylines may or may not intersect with the goings-on of the Gang Wars Trilogy, but it gives me a rough idea of "where the universe is" if someone wanted to play an established character rather than creating their own. The only established characters in the game so far are Solo and the NPCs Deadpool, both of whom are appearing in the game well before they would have appeared in comics set in this timeline, so they're in their "prequel" years. Nick Fury is running a bigger, more secret and more byzantine SHIELD agency with DC's Checkmate! and Project: Cadmus added to it. Silver Sable's mercenary organization is pretty huge and has fingers in a lot of pies as well. Most of the big-name heroes from the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and Justice League are off-planet right now attending Captain Mar-Vell's funeral. The X-Men and Teen Titans are also off-world encountering the Brood and the Psions respectively. I'm going to be doing a bit more with Task's original Paladin Institute organization, and shoehorning its "Power Broker for good guys" shadiness in to the salad as well. It's B-list street level superhero time, in a well-developed / ever-going world that could potentially move on beyond the constraints of the Gang Wars Trilogy's pages. Anyway, I wouldn't have given that primer up there if new players weren't welcome, so... show us what you have in mind

Hi there! Just came to this site and relearning the ropes as it were. I have played MSH before though the last time i did so as a pc it was during The Time Wrap trilogy (MT1-3) which inspired me to create my own homebrew world of Earth 617. (But i digress since that was over 15 years ago.)
After a few years i dropped out pen and paper rpgs and joined other online games but needless to say almost all of them went the way of the dodo. It wasn't until recently that i just got back to playing with friends after five years. I discovered the DEA site and i got rehooked again. Then i found classic marvel forever which led me here.
I am more of a traditional guy who plays heroes in a team setting (Avengers/JL) but i am flexible. I do play established/canon characters but they tend to be second stringers (in many people's minds) who are more followers than leaders and don't really mind being under the shadow of other, more greater heroes. (Dazzler, Wolfsbane and Forge.) But again i can come up with OCs if needed.
Like i said, i just begun to relearn the rules so bear with me if i often make mistakes.

Howdy, Cold Steel, and welcome!
You have teo options for characters, one far less painful than the other.
The less painful way is to make your own original character, keeping power and abilities at around Incredible or lower (we're the "less than Amazing" crew hehehe)
The more painful way is to use an established Marvel OR DC character around the same power levels, which may or may not have his history and contacts tweaked to fit the setting, especially if the character in question appeared in comics after 1983 or so.
Well, neither way is really painful, except with an established character there's more a constraint on role-playing because of personality parameters, where with a new character there's no "Jello Master would never act like that" because you also get to declare what kind of personality your creation has.
Looking forward to seeing your submission.
