ooc: Okay, no biggie. Was kinda hoping for some further character interaction between Solo and the other heroes (even if it's "you're going to jail, murderer" and escaping later to hit the rest of the gang members at the impending funerals or something more viscious LOL. I can draw Solo back in to the NYC Gang Wars, even from Utah. Looks like Solo will have a "solo" game on the side. Paths will cross later.)

ooc: with Solo teleporting, his initiative was an effective 15. Nobody could pre-empt him before he bugged out. We'll see Solo again. ;D The night is still young, Solo will miss the action that will literally come "after midnight" later, but... The following happens near simultaneously:
Solo activates the teleportation circuitry cybernetically implanted in his brain and vanishes in a lingering dance of glowing plasma that disappear into nothingness, leaving his MP5K machine pistol on the ground where the cop kicked it away. He arrives in his makeshift bunker in the mountains of Utah, sore from the bruises of being shot in his armor three times in the chest and once in the forehead. In his bunker is replacement weapons, ammunition, and a computer system. On the screen of the computer is a notice that he has a heavily-encrypted email message waiting. [ooc: I'll start a thread for Solo's solo adventuring later]
=====
Hearing the distinctive noise of a military flashbang grenade go off, followed by someone yelling "I am Solo and while I live TERROR DIES!" Oldschool leaps over the museum towards the sidewalk where he left the cop to treat the wounded with First Aid. He lands as globules of light float in the air and disappear. Suddenly there is a flash of light behind him, Oldschool spins, adrenaline racing and ready to punch, but realizes it's Flashdance emerging from his own bright energy flash. Above him, Oldschool's super-hearing notes that Shockwave's armor is making a hideous hypersonic grinding noise, and he lands on the sidewalk in a non-graceful but soft stagger.
=====
Shockwave noticed he's getting a bit warmer inside his armor as he takes aim at the commando that just horribly burned the face of a cop with a flashbang grenade. He fires a stun blast at... nothing. The commando suddenly disappeared in Star Trek-like light show! Oldschool lands on the ground just as the light fades, followed by a flash of light that Flashdance emerges from.
The computer in Shockwave's helmet says...
[Malfunction]
[Mach Stem Shockwave Generator Overheating]
...and Shockwave drops in a wobbly motion to an awkward, but safe landing on his feet.
SWAT teams and paramedics begin treating the wounded and preparing them for transport to the hospital. They pull a sheet over the dead old man and the Broad Daylight Killaz gang member that Solo executed.
A SWAT team captain approaches Oldschool, Flashdance, and Shockwave and asks, "What the hell just happened here?" but doesn't stick around for an answer as he begins confering with other police arriving on the scene.
======
Around 45 minutes pass as the police tag shell casings on the ground, and collect Solo's MP5K machine pistol into an evidence bag. Ambulances carry away the wounded under police escort. The BDK thug that Shockwave tackled is carried away in a Medivac helicopter. The cops discover that a few of the BDK thugs were carrying the drug known as "Kick."
A firefighting crew arrives to extinguish the flaming wreckage of the driveby shooter's vehicle and the police car.
Some witness statements:
"The car sped by and they shot into the crowd. The BDK thugs started shooting back. One of the driveby shooters jumped out of the car before it exploded."
"Yeah and the guy that jumped out of the car got shot and kept coming. He was crazy. Kept yelling 'I am solo and going to kill you all.' Then he disappeared in a flash of light"
"No you idiot! That guy with the red power mullet appeared in a flash of light just as the psycho disappeared into thin air..."
"Don't call me an idiot! I know what I saw!"
As the cops finish gathering statements from civilian witnesses, Felicia Bifrost runs out of the museum and throws her arms around Shockwave, hugging him. "I'm so glad you're okay." She plucks tufts of mud and grass out of some of the seams in Shockwave's chest plate and his onboard computer reports that the sonic generator's ventilation system is cooling more efficiently. She hands him his laptop bag. Shockwave notices that the zipper on the bag is not fully zipped up. She goes and begins giving a statement to the police.
=====
A police officer hands Oldschool the baseball bat that belongs to Flashdance. "Here's your bat. I hope you knocked the sh!t out of those punks."
As the heroes listen to the cops reconstruct the scene, they hear the following:
"It started back at 8th Avenue, on the south end of the Park, around 6:25 pm. The suspects gunned down some of the Gutter Pirates and a few innocent bystanders before driving up here and hitting the Broad Daylight Killaz."
"All small timers and 'alleged' pawns of Nefaria and Silvermane. Some of the BDKs were holding Mutie Crack..."
"Holy sh!t!"
"Who owns the driveby vehicle?"
"You're gonna sh*t a brick. The car's registered to a suspected Maggia-front business. Hammerhead Doodles. Nothing solid for the DA to touch. The car was reported stolen a week ago. "
"F_ckin' figures."
"Yeah, and we know, but can't prove in court, that the BDKs do grunt work for Silvermane."
"Geezus. First the Gotham Joker's ex-flunkies get hit now Hammerhead's, Nefaria's, and Silvermane's flunkies are throwing down. Nothing we can solidly pin on any of the big fish."
"Looks like we've got a goddamned Gang War on our hands. Throw Kick junkies in the mix and this is going to get ugly fast."
"Yeah. That guy that jumped out of the driveby vehicle was probably on Kick. He took four rounds at point blank range like they were nothin'. Unstoppable. So whacked out he blew up his own crew. The forensics guys are going to need tweezers and Q-tips to get the stiffs out of that wreck...."
-----
After Felicia finishes giving a statement to the police about the BDK that grabbed her, she approaches Shockwave, Flashdance, and Oldschool as she shuts her cellphone.
"Mr. Pride is letting me take one of the museum cars for the evening. If you'd like, I can take you all to that pizza place and drop you off." Then to Shockwave flirtingly, "Can you eat with that mask on?"
Felicia's tone shifts back to a tremble when she overhears a cop mention Hammerhead and the witnesses talking about one of the driveby shooters jumping out of the car and beginning to execute fallen BDKs before thowing a bomb at a cop and disappearing into thin air. "Hammerhead has killers that can vanish into thin air! Do you mind if I stay with youse guys longer? Please? I'll buy the pizza..."
It is approaching 7:30 pm.

The day had been a whirlwind, and it still wasn't even dark yet. Two dead, including one innocent victim, and almost another by my own hand. Being a superhero always seemed much more glamorous in theory than the reality of it was turning out. What was this all about? It all seems so random, so senseless. It certainly was a lot more real than any lame theories about a witch's book being used to summon up Frankenstein's monster. At this point, I probably would prefer the monster to this. Shockwave watches where the body of the old man lies on the sidewalk, covered by a sheet. This isn't how it was supposed to happen. Maybe I should have left this to real heroes.
Lost in his thoughts, Shockwave doesn't even notice Felicia until she's almost on top of him. Although it can't be seen through his helm, he's relieved to see she's alright, and at least he hadn't messed that part of this fiasco up. "Good to see you are alright too. Looks like you need to send a thank you note to your self defense instructor more than me though. That was some quick thinking."
Shockwave takes the bag back, noticing the zipper has been moved, but trying not to let on that he noticed. "Let me know when you are done with your statement. I still want to make sure you get home safely."
-------
Gutter Pirates? Broad Daylight Killers? Nefaria? Silvermane? The Magia? Hammerhead? The Joker? Mutie Crack? Not to mention some masked maniac attacking cops and shooting up the town. There is way too many players to process in this. Where in the world are we going to start? Shockwave looks over to where Felicia is giving her statement. Well, I guess I start there. I have two promises left to keep. First, to get her to safety...then maybe I can find out what her son knows about this mess, and hopefully keep him clear of it.
--------
As Felicia approaches after her statement, Shockwave watches her closely. A car...that sounds much safer than her taking a cab anyway. Well done Mr. Pride. Shockwave blushes slightly at Felicia's flirting tone...and is very glad the mask hides it. "Uh, I don't think I'll be eating tonight. With all that has happened, I've kind of lost my appetite. I hope you all don't mind if I come along anyway though. I think we have a lot to talk about. Not sure how long I can stay anyway. I have someonne that needs looking in on tonight. With all that happened, I want to make sure they are safe." Shockwave looks straight at Felicia with the last statement, making one way eye contact from inside of the faceshield of his helm.
This could be a long night.

Another 20 minutes pass as the police wrap up taking statements and gathering evidence. One approaches the heroes and asks "I don't suppose you anonymous capes have any witness statements or will agree to appear in court, huh? If so, I'll need your real names, addresses, phone numbers, place of employment yada yada yada. You capes never do, but I have to ask."
[ooc: take this small window of opportunity to ask questions of the cops.]
As the heroes talk to the cop, flat bed tow trucks arrive and haul away the wrecks of the burned out vehicles and the crashed bus and police car. Another bus arrives to pick up stranded passengers that refused transport to the hospital.
Museum Security Chief Harry Rollins pulls up in a brown 4-door Jeep Cherokee emblazoned on the front doors with the New York City Metropolitan Museum of Art logo. He turns the car around in a U-turn facing 5th Avenue and gets out, handing the keys to Felicia.
[ooc: now to borrow Reed Richard's calculator to figure out Karma awards...]

Shockwave looks at the officer a moment. "I'm afraid I can't make an official statement, but I do want to clarify a few things. First, it might be a good idea to get any information possible together on that masked gunman. It's very possible a teleporter was involved with the MET theft, and him showing up here tonight can't be a coincidence, the evidence all seems to fit together. However, he wasn't the one who gunned down the people in the driveby. Among the wreckage of that car, I think you'll find that the passenger had an assault rifle of some kind that will match the bullets in the gunshot victims. The masked guy appeared from nowhere, stopping the shooting and leaping off the car just before it exploded. I'm afraid I missed most of what happened with him between him getting shot in the chest by one of the gang members, and the flash grenade going off and the masked man disappearing."

The cop gives Shockwave an annoyed look. "Who are you, Matlock? That guy burned my pal Bennie with a flashbanger. Witnesses have him gunning down the crowd and jumping out to finish the job. They'll lift the state moratorium on the electric chair for that a$$hole."

"I saw the flashbang, and believe me, I wanted to catch him as much as anyone. However, he wasn't the shooter from the car. Just like he teleported out, he teleported onto that moving car as it was shooting. I had a good view from the air. He's still dangerous, still needs to be apprehended, and seems to play a big part in this whole mess."

The cop becomes more agitated at the percieved defense of Solo's actions and replies "Look buddy, we've got witnesses that say he was one of the shooters. I don't know anything about no telemorphasion and your word isn't admissible in court without the prosecution and defense's right of discovery to know who you are yada yada. If you can't give us something we can use, then fly away or somethin'. Get the hell out of my crime scene."
