Let's face it, we've all probably seen this discussion a thousand times. It's been done to death. Although I've always been a Marvel Fan (up to the early 80s, anyway) I've always been of the mind to say that Superman wins against anyone... that's who Superman is, the ultimate hero, the acme of superpowers blah blah blah. Do I think Thor could pound our boy from Krypton like a drum... yes, I do... but I've always thought Superman would eventually win... that's just how his character was created and evolved. Maybe they should add that power to his character sheet-- Always Eventually Wins- ShiftZ (500). Superman not eventually winning, screws with comic continuity.
Anyway...
Hulk vs Superman.
I always patrol the forums... mostly just to see how Marvel continues to screw up comics, but I came upon a Hulk vs Superman discussion that had an interesting point that I had never really bothered to consider before. Like I said earlier, Superman wins... 'nuff said, but this poster said something along the lines of If we accept that characters like Gladiator, Hyperion and Sentry are weak, carbon copies of Superman then we cannot dismiss the possibility that Hulk could potentially beat Superman. I was a little intrigued so I read more and he went on to cut through the normal discussions that Superman could Speed Blitz Hulk (and then the Hulk Fans were trying to defend with Hulk speed feats... sort of sad) by saying none of the feats matter. Gladiator, Hyperion and Sentry, he said have all of Superman's powers to some extent or another (which would include things like Hyperspeed and such), they all had equal opportunity to use them (whether or not they actually used them) and still, Hulk's records against these three are heavily in his favour. Somehow he still beats them.
Now before you get in an uproar, I know that all these encounters were written and drawn by Marvel and I know that most of these stories written and drawn by Marvel are meant to show that Hulk could beat their rival, DCs, character but if you ignore everything else, look sideways and squint your eyes.... Hulk has an impressive record beating characters with Supermanesque powers.
Superman still wins, but I sure look at the fight differently now. It's nice to see that even an old dog (me) can be shown other ways to look at things I thought pretty concrete in my mind.
What are some of your thoughts on this revelation Isuffered through had??
