My 3 year old (who will be 4 in May) has asked for a Superhero/Avenger's Birthday party this year. He's an avengers fanatic (and pretty much loves every other superhero cartoon/book/movie he's seen as well.)
I've been putting together ideas for a party for a bunch of 3-5 years olds, but figure I'd ask fellow superhero fans around here for inspiration as well.

hmm Ferine and I say you dress up as Nick Fury, after all you are running the show (presumably). maybe some sort of "whack-a-loki" game if it is possible, complete with thor's hammer ofc or a pinata made to look like loki and beating it with thors hammer.

Searching "how to" projects on building a whack-a-mole game. Already have a Thor's hammer. Other ideas floating around: A "mystery/treasure hunt" style thing to track down a villain. Superhero costume dress up, complete with green screen photos to place the "heros" into pictures. (Maybe even a mini comic book as the thank you cards if pictures actually work out well.) Avengers xbox kinnect game station.

Built my green screen this weekend and did some test shots with my 3 year old. Took about 5 minutes to shoot and photoshop some superhero pics together. Definately can clean up better than that, but couldn't be happier about how easy a green backdrop makes editing someone into a picture.
Definately greenlighting that for the party. My son didn't want to do it until he sent the results. Now he's all excited about he and his friends dressing up in superhero costumes to stand at the green screen.

The party went over great. The parents seemed to love it almost as much as the kids.
Invitations: I used the captain America recruiting poster photo from the Cap movie, with an invite looking for local super heroes.
Arrival: We had a craft table with decorate your own capes and masks. Meanwhile a computer was set on a 20 minute loop to play a message from SHIELD, explaining how New York is protected by the Avengers, Los Angelas has the West Coast Avengers, and Chicago has the Great Lakes Avengers. Now that there is a threat to the Memphis area, the Avengers initiative is being expanded to the area to form the Mid-South Avengers. (The video also introduced footage a robotics expert calling himself the Black Scorpion who is believed to have set up shop in the area, and is the driving force for the need for heroes.)
Once a hero was costumed up, we did green screen pictures with a number of poses, so we could take the photo and print out their own Avengers ID card. (Pictures were also stashed for Midsouth Avengers #1 which was sent out to each of the kids along with their thank you notes from the party.)
Assembling: Ironman (or at least some middle aged overweight approximation) showed up and called for all the new heroes to assemble, telling them they will need to train hard before he had to head out and leave them to their trainers. Training consisted of agility training (kind of a hopscotch course and a balance beam), sense or teamwork training (a pin the tail on the donkey version with villain faces where the heroes put up "POW" stickers. They could try to use spider sense to get them, or teamwork by having the other heroes tell them where to go), and accuracy (been bag toss at yet more villain portraits.)
The Villain: The black scorpion shows up tells the kids that this whole thing is a trap, and that little heroes need to be stomped out before they become big heroes. The green screen is moved out of the way revealing an arachnid robot standing over 4' tall (enough to outsize the heroes.) The lights and smoke didn't work as well as I'd hoped (had to do major mods on the robot last minute to make it an indoor free standing robot instead of an outdoor robot that hangs from a tree.), but the heroes had a great time (and took about 20 minutes beating the robot to a pulp with sticks. (The Black Scorpion had made his exit while they were all fighting the robot.)
EDIT: Then they celebrated their victory with cake!
