Scene 1.1: Jump into the Action
The sound of car horns from angry drivers in stopped traffic fills the air. The flashing blue and red lights of sirens mix with the morning light, making the seen of the crowd somewhat sureal. The crowd is a mix of media and other onlookers all scanning the rooftop of the Peabody Hotel, looking for the sign of anyone in the sky. The crowd is silent with anticipation, a fact mostly lost with the overwealming sound of traffic.
All of the sudden the someone shouts, "look up there!" The crowd surges forward against the blockade of police, as everyone tries to get a position to see what is going in above. The police try to hold back the mass, as people begin to get pushed and shoved, looking more like a mosh pit than a city street.
"You are all ordered to peacefully disperse," a megaphone calls out, but it gets drowned out with the car horns and the now buzzing crowd. Police begin to look more and more tense, as a clash starts to look inevitable.
<OOC> Due to the news of the last several days, word has already been out there that something was likely to happen at the Peabody in the morning. Would be heroes have an opportunity to make a name for themselves with whatever is about to occur.
Please take the opportunity to describe positioning (other rooftops, in the crowd, on the Peabody, flying, etc) and how you prepare for the upcoming action. If you aren't familiar with what is likely to happen, please check the newspapers in the news section for the last several days. </OOC>

Alec stood at the front of the crowd, but his focus was not on the building, but instead on the crowd, and on the police-men and -women trying to keep the crowd in check. This had the makings of a disaster, and he wanted to be here in case something happened.

Curtis, in his Cyberhawk armor, was flying fifty feet above the roof of the Peabody and trying really hard not to get noticed by the mob. So far he saw nothing out of the ordinary but that didn't reassure him. While at first he did not pay much heed to the strange happenings in the papers, it did peak his curiosity enough to show up.
"My oh my. Such a lovely crowd so happy to record a death on their iphones to post over the 'net." he wryly remarked as he continued his sweep of the area.

 The Crowds circle 3 sides of the building (2nd Street, 3rd Street, and Union Avenue). The heavier concentrations of people are on 2nd and 3rd. Traffic is backed up for miles at Union Avenue, which in turn has backed up traffic on the nearby Interstates and every intersection for blocks in any direction. There are at least 50 police cars parked along Union and the side streets, as police try to keep crowds calm, direct traffic, and watch for potential jumpers. |

RJ sits in the Capriccio Grill, idly forking his Veal Marsala and watches the news feed of the commotion outside on his ipad while trying to hack into the Peabody's rooftop security feed.
(ooc: his "worksuit" is is under his civies; the gloves, boots, cape & mask are in the messanger bag slung over his shoulder.)

AJ sits in the limo watching as traffic grinds to a halt on Union Avenue, bored she takes the lighter out of her bag and lights it and changes the flame into a tiny fire bird.

Corner of Union and 3rd - 9:37 am.
"Look up there!" a shout rings out from the crowd. The crowd begins surging forward, spilling off of the sidewalk and into the streets as people look for better viewing angles. Police with riot shields begin to have onlookers push into them as other parts of the crowd mix in with the traffic along union, stopping what little movement there was for the cars there. Some of the more unruly begin to climb on top of cars jumping up and down as they get cell phones ready for pictures.
A cameraman trying to film a live report for a local TV station gets engulfed by the crowd and his camera goes crashing to the concreate with a crack.
The Carriccio Grill - 9:38 am.
The newsfeed continues showing a crowd on the verge of riot outside, the complete opposite of the stillness of the almost empty restaurant at this time of the day. "The roof has been declared off limits for everyone. Even emergency responders are staying off of the roof today. Police have blockaded every way up, but aren't going up their themselves." The reporter is shoved into the camera as the feed cuts into static. As the news returns the anchor, RJ finds a way into the roof cameras of the hotel, and his attention is taken away from their comments.
The camera shows some movement on the roof...
Peabody Hotel Roof, along Union Avenue - 9:39 am.
(Seen from the air and the security cameras...they are not in view from the ground)
Two people embrace after they emerge from a hotel stairwell, somehow bypassing the inside blockade. They are teens or early twenties, and seem to be crying as they say goodbye to each other. The female begins making her way along the roof towards 2nd street, while the male heads the oposit direction twoards 3rd. Neither seems to be in a hurry to get to whereever they are going until a new helicoptor comes into view of the hotel, prompting both to pick up their pace.

Cyberhawk gazed up at the helicopter with disdain.
Great just what i need at this point. And how in hell did these kids got through in the first place?
He hovered lower to the couple and bit back a curse as they separated.
Aww nuts. Can't really save both at the same time.
Reluctantly, Cyberhawk flew toward the girl in order to land right in front of her to hopefully block her path.
"I say, miss. I do declare you have picked a bad time to become roadkill. How about we all go back inside and order room service?" he called out.
If there was one thing Cyberhawk disliked about his armor was the fact when he talked, the helmet's speakers made him sound like the cartoon rooster Foghorn Leghorn doing an Elvis Presley impersonation.
No matter, there were more important things to deal with now.

Alec tensened as the crowd surged forward. None of them noticed the faint shimmering field around him or the fact that they seemed to not jostle him at all, but instead were pushed away from him by the field.
As he looked up towards the roof he saw a green winged shape land on the other side of the building roof. At the same time he saw the shape of a man at the edge of the building on this side of the building. He quickly moves to a place where he has a clear path to the approximate area where the man would land if he jumped. Maybe if he was lucky he could jump to intercept the man before he hit the pavement.
/ooc using the jumping rules, he can leap 30 feet up and or 30 feet across, and he will then try to snatch him mid air ooc/

RJ stands up, tosses a $50 on the table, and heads towards the exit, never taking his eyes from the security feed. He begins multitasking:
"...any passing/observing cape will likely go for the female first, placing the male in the greatest danger; costume under clothes is inefficient...research Dr. Richards' applications of unstable molecules; the best photographers/reporters/investigators will be as far away from the crowd as possible...can't change in the street; perpetrator will want an unobstructed view of events with the least likelihood of being spotted/connected to the event; triangulate best vantage from surrounding buildings; grappling to the roof will take approximately 50 seconds..."
RJ dashes across the street into the peabody, heads for the nearest stairwell, disables the camera as he changes into costume and launches his grapple up the stairwell.
OOC: He's anticipating the jumper to already be in freefall before he can reach him...

Cyberhawk landed directly in front of the girl. He activated his hover wings to spring out in order to further her progress.
"Last chance to stop this, little missy. Take one more step and i'll let loose my screech. Believe me, it ain't pleasant."

West Side of the Peabody Rooftop - 9:40 am
The female rushes towards the western edge of the building, seemingly in a daze as she moves, bumping into air conditioning units and other obstacles on her way, but never diverting from her apparent goal. Cyberhawk lands, cutting off her path. She almost runs right into him, noticing him at the last moment and falling backwards as she stops her advance. She scoots backwards away from him, seemingly terrified.
"No, I need to get to the edge. I can't stop now!" She clances to the other side of the building in the direction of where the man went. He's no longer in veiw due to the number of obstacles.
Corner of Union and 3rd - 9:41 am.
The crowds continue to serge forward, enveloping the vehicles. A limo stuck in traffic has several younger crowd members climb on top, jumping up and down and shouting toward a man making a break towards the peabody hotel. One of the hooligans is dangerously close to crashing through the sunroof as it opens, but he catches his balance at the last moment, swearing towards the interior...at least for the moment.
Police rush towards Alec as he is getting position closer to the building, calling out for him to stop and go back to the crowd. A body begins to fall from the East side of the building after a brief pause at the edge. This it looks like Alec is his last chance before hitting the the pavement.
(OOC: Alec - Roll two feats - once for the jump, once for the catch.
AJ - 3 people on the limo. 1 on the hood, two on the roof. They don't seem overly dangerous, other than being very reckless.)
Peabody Stairwell - 9:45 am.
After disabling the camera and firing a grapple up the stairwell, RJ reaches the roof of the building. Coming out the access door, he can see a woman facing off with someone in a menacing set of green armor near the edge of the building. She seems to be terrified, trying to scoot away from him on her bottom.
