Hi I'm Ferine she says to Flashdance trying not chuckle. "I have no idea what they are on about."
Ferine speaks up "Well since I really don't know any of you, I will leave it up to you guys to find out who the leader is."

Oldschool couldn't believe his eyes when Flashdance appeared carrying 'Reen'. There was more than a little guilt leaving Flashdance's sleeping form to others. Had anything happened, it would have added a considerable amount of guilt to the mountain Mike already struggled to shoulder.
He was on his way to take Reen from Flashdance when Vigil explained the youngsters history. Oldschool had to mentally give his mind a shake. The 'youngster' was older than all of them save Vigil. Oldschool almost felt betrayed. He had sought to protect the innocent youngster and 'Reen' probably knew more about things then the whole team. He was going to have to sort his feelings out later.
Again, it didn't feel right.
Oldschool studied Vigil.
Just how old was Vigil???
"FD!" he shouted with honest warmth and moved to shake the man's hand. It was clear that he felt better seeing FD standing and moving about. FD was an integral part of this team.
He listened to the discussion on leadership. When they spoke of perhaps his leading the team, he was once again swamped with guilt. He hadn't exactly done a stellar job the last time he had lead.
He absently glanced at his old friend, now wearing combat armor.
How many lives were abruptly changed when Sherman Industries went into the toilet, he wondered. There had been so many decisions that he had later regretted. He tried not to think about Tony Stark sitting rich and pretty.
Like Teflon that one, he mused... nothing sticks to him.
Oldschool cleared his voice.
"I appreciate the votes of confidence. Normally I'd be quick to decline... I don't have a great track record as a leader, but I do recognize that I'm the only one here that doesn't have a secret identity... or a life for that matter. I am used to dealing with the media, but I do plan on operating as a spokesman for the group; meaning that after a discussion and consensus, I'll represent our point of view."
"I've tons of guilt people. I've made a lot of decisions that have harmed alot of people's lives. 'Not meaning to' doesn't exactly help change anything. I fear that making more 'wrong decisions' will harm all of you... and I've come to respect all of you probably alot more than you realize..."
"I've nothing anymore. Nothing but this... and you. To say that I would take this position but with a heavy heart would be an incredibly huge understatement."
"I... We... need someone to help me, help us when it's crunch time. I've been in the military, but to actually call myself a soldier would be a huge disservice to the men and women who slug it out in the trenches, so to speak. This group needs someone who can make big decisions at critical moments... someone who isn't afraid to slap sense into me. I wear my emotions on my sleeve... and that's not always going to be the best policy."
"I've known Vendetta for a long time. While I've not always agreed with his methods or logic, I have always respected his ability to master a crisis. My vote would go for him to back me up. I've worked with him before on... stuff and I can tell you quite honestly, he's the man to tell me to quit sucking my thumb and get things done..."
"Shockwave's another. Since working with him on this case I've come to respect both his scientific mind and his morals. I've watched him deal with the media and recognize that he's not exactly a stranger to this. He'd be another good selection."
Oldschool sighed before chuckling.
"I'm not making this any easier but I think Solo is a good choice. I believe him when he says he's committed to the team's goals and I've watched him restrain himself since the first time I watched him in action and I appreciate his efforts. While I do not agree with his methods, there is something to consider when we look at what we've encountered since joining together..."
"Like it or not... we're in a war against enemies who have no compunction against killing us. We know this lesson all too well. We have to start walking the 'razor's edge'. While we cannot stoop to the enemies level and risk becoming that which we fight against, we do have to start hitting hard and making advances against and enemy who's likely several steps ahead of us. To this end, Solo with his years of counter-terrorism would be a great boon to our team's leadership."
"I see you walking the 'razor's edge' brother and I just want to tell you, that I appreciate it. My soul's already too stained to add needless deaths to it."
"Lastly, Elixir might be a ideal choice. Sometimes he seems to be the only one who can see things differently than the rest of us. We should recognize this and embrace it instead of scorning it for being different than the rest of the team's views. If ever a team needed a 'heart' or a 'soul', I think Elixir's our man. When everything else fails, you always gotta trust your heart..."
"And FD... sorry bud, but your too damn good looking to be leader. If anyone attains celebrity status out of this group, it'll be you. You'll be too busy making commercials and dating super-models to make time for being a leader.."
Oldschool grinned.

With his typical cheesy grin, Flashdance shakes old school's hand, dramatically pretending that it's being crushed.
"great ton see you to. I just had to take a quick nap, fight a nightmare demon, and thwack a few zombies. No biggie"
Listening to his talkmabout picking a leader, he says,
"I'm afraid your right about me. Not really leadership material, chicks dig the 'do to much. Just tell me who to thump, or leave hanging of the Statue of Liberty by their scivvies and I'm good."
For a second, Flashdance gets an expression on his face that's uncharacteristically serious, as if he's thinking about something, then quickly puts the smile back on.
"Yeahhhh, um, Shocky, I love ya like a brother, and I'll never bet against you at the dog track, but I think Old School's right. We might need a hard edge. Solo, I don't care for you, but you can do what's sometimes needed, Vendeta, I get the feeling you can to. I'm betting right now, one of you guys might need to be number 2."
Right after he says that last part, he stifles a little giggle...

Vendetta listens quietly to what his old friend says, nodding in agreement to most of what he is saying. When Oldschool is done, he casually walks over to him. Leaning close enough that only Oldschool can hear him he whispers to him, "after this meeting I'd like to talk to you in private." With that he goes back to his previous 'perch' and listens to what else is being said.

Vigil goes to a writing desk at the side of the team's living room and produces some paper and pens, handing them out to the gathered heroes. [ooc: this is the in-game equivalent of the secret ballot poll for team leader ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ] "Flashdance will of course remain as liason to the Paladin Institute, and Rin will remain under our care. But it is the Board of Directors intent that the team they back, you all, not get in trouble with law enforcement. This may require a new costume for Solo, as he is already rather in a lot of trouble. Still, his atrocious methods have their place. The Paladin Institute has many enemies, some of our own making. Some we wouldn't mind seeing... eliminated. In due time, of course." After Vigil passes out the paper for everyone to vote, he says, "Once you've all decided on a team leader and 2nd-in-command, you should all come up with a team name for the media."

ooc: and now for the disintegrated post mentioned earlier, Vigil answering everyone's questions in an updated context...
----
Vigil says to Elixir and the other heroes, "I can see what is going on, and it is madness. It is hard to focus on the pieces when I can see the whole thing. I just can't find the words for what I see. The untrained mind could never understand in any way I could explain it, but I'll try. If one could hear it, it would be the most disturbing, unbearable, torturous sound. If one could smell or taste it, the noxious poison would violate and corrupt them. It... hurts to look at it. Excuse me."
Vigil takes a deep breath then reaches up an removes a glowing white stone out of his left eyesocket. He falters a bit, towards the writing desk, feeling for it with an outstretched hand. Setting the glowing stone on the desk, he turns, obviously blind.
"This is the only way I can talk about it, unfortunately. To speak of it pulls the images to my mind and then I must struggle to push them out. I can see evil energies. Chaos. The many things that are being used by the demons fulfilling Bartholomew Jacobs' spell to ressurrect himself and bring his dreams of revenge back upon the Earth. There are so many things, random-seeming things being subtly directed towards each other. It is no accident that Jacobs' amulets are bonding with murderers in this chaos, with the mutant attack hysteria, the monster attacks being generated by HYDRA's Hypnoporter, the chaos and confusion of this paranoid gang war it is stirring up, and of course the Kick drug the gangs are fighting over. There's no way we can stop all the killing and violence. That component of Jacobs' sinister spell seems secure. The amulets will manifest, and we must collect them if we're to lock Batholomew Jacobs and his demonic allies out of our dimension. Finding this HYDRA Hypnoporter and shutting them down for good will stop further damage to the dimensional barriers, but even those will open on Hallowe'en night. Shutting down the Hypnoporter merely delays the delivery of the amulets from the Formorexian Dimension which are needed to lock Jacobs' portal to them. We need the amulets, and his grimoire, to calculate the sequence and placement of them on his portal artifact in order to delay his escape from his hellish prison for another 400 years. Or forever, if we're lucky. Unfortunately, our archives are sketchy on these details. We'd have to have all of the amulets in their place by Hallowe'en night, another component of Jacobs' spell that seems secure, as it is contingent on both the chaos enabling their appearance and bonding to random murderers it would seem we'd have to wait upon to kill people before they'll appear. If we have the amulets and the grimoire before Hallowe'en, we can lock the portal. I don't know if we have time. This is the ugly picture I see, these evil energies. Jacobs' spell is sinister. Waiting on the amulets to appear and tracking them down means doing nothing to stop the mass violence that will make them appear. The only way I see around that is to find the book and see if the remaining amulets can be summoned without the need for mass violence on the loose attracting them. This HYDRA Hypnoporter thing could not have come at a worse time. And how exactly are we to approach the gangs and crime families and tell them they're being played against each other by a HYDRA cell with a sinister mental projection weapon that is tearing dimension barriers apart? How do we find a HYDRA cell, much less tell them to stop using their Hypnoporter because it is inadvertently allowing an ancient warlock to ressurrect himself and unleash his hellish wrath? Both need to be stopped, of course, but it is unlikely either would be cooperative. As I said, Jacobs' spell to weave chaos to facilitate his return is sinister. We've delayed his return once before, but in those days technology was not so pervasive. Unfortunately our records of how we did this are not as detailed as they should be. It seems that possibly people were killed to force the amulets to appear, then the murderers they bonded to were killed at the right moment. That would seem to be a detail not to include in the archives. Fortunately Flashdance can teleport the amulets off of one it is bonded to. We need to get the one off of the frozen assassin downstairs. Let's go down into the sub-basements and I'll show you the artifact."
With that, Vigil places the glowing stone back in his eye socket.

ooc: the secret poll is closed, and the votes are counted. Oldschool 8 votes Shockwave 6 votes Vendetta 2 votes Elixir 1 vote Congratulations to new team leader Oldschool and his second in command Shockwave. The reason the numbers don't add up is that I voted in the poll as well, and someone (not me) only voted for one candidate... Anyway, with Karma Awards at the start of Chapter 10, both Oldschool and Shockwave will get the Leadership talent grafted to their character sheets... let's have a round of applause for the guys that are gonna get you all killed, er, lead you into glorious combat with evil

Solo says to oldschool right after his speech, "I appreciate yout confidence in me, but I dont think Id be the best leader, given that most people have problems with my methods and philosophy in this group, and I avoid any kind of media if possible. I will however continue to support the group until this gang war is over, as I said before"

Vigil points to the gun he had fished out of Rin's coat and tossed on the table as it crumbles into a fine dust. Vigil says "I knew I had disarmed him downstairs. I wonder..." Vigil heads into the elevator, beckoning the heroes to follow. Vigil waits for all to enter, followed up by Rin who Vigil asks to come along a second time. Rin nervously gets up out of the corner and walks slowly into the elevator. Vigil says to the control panel "Override security pass. Penner Alpha Eight Zero. Take us down. Sub-Level Six." The computer voice responds "Security voiceprint authorization confirmed" and the elevator begins descending. [ooc: Reason FEAT from Shockwave ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) ] The elevator opens into a expansive room, with computers running strange equations and taking readings from a large circular black granite slab that is etched with strange symbols. It has seven slots for amulets to be inserted in it. Two amulets are inserted into it, a glowing yellow and a glowing violet one. The glowing red amulet is still around Deadpool's neck, frozen in the center of a block of ice that is slowly beginning to melt. In another section of the room, there are seven gurneys occupied by seven comatose clones of the child Rin, connected via monitoring equipment to an eighth clone of Rin, who is also comatose. The monitoring equipment seems to suggest large amounts of subconscious brain activity from the Rin-clones. Vigil finds a gun on the floor, the one he had gotten from Rin before. "A real gun," Vigil mused at Rin. "You must have brought the other one upstairs back from your dreams. It's fascinating that the clones are powerful enough to collectively create your form enough to give it some ability to pull things out of dreams." Vigil turns to the others. "This is why Rin was cloned to fuel Arnim Zola's reality manipulation weapon - the original Nazi Hypnoporter."

Vendetta walks slowly into the cavernous room, looking around wearily, making sure he stays well clear of the granite slab with the medallions. "I never understood much of this mumbojumbo." he says as he looks around at the various monitors trying to decipher what the readings mean.

Vendetta looks over a few computer monitors, finding one with a heading that reads:
[ANomalous Geometric Event Locator Towers ***Ping MODE OFF***]
Below the heading are incomprehensible chunks of strange formulaic equations that appear to be highly advanced probability calculations based on a streams of esoteric data pouring in from some sort of tuning platform built into the Angel Towers buildings themselves.
Below the streams of incomprensible readings, Vendetta sees a countdown timer that reads:
[Next Ping: 01 Hours 01 Minutes 06 seconds]
[click CLIOMETRIC SIMULATION tab to view probability and chronodynamic analysis interpretation of currently collected data]

"So you all have the original version of the hypnoporter and are only telling us about this now? What else can you tell us about it?"
To Shockwave Elixir says, "The dreadnought that you have has the radio frequency ID for their delivery. I need you to help me locate it. It should lead directly to one of their lab locations."
To Vigil Elixir says, "These amulets seek out killers and there's a gang war going on and hiring is underway for mercenaries. Where's the most likely spot where people like Hammerhead will recruit?"
Elixir thinks to himself,
I suspect that is the Roaring 20's club.
