Vigil says, "Gather around. We have much to discuss, and I'm sure you all have questions."

Vigil turns to Arc as she returns with Shockwave and says, "Glitch is not in the building." Vigil's left eye glows with an eerie white light. "He's on a subway, heading north, pretty far away. Coming up on a stop. He's getting off at... damn. He's out of my range. Too many lifeforms to sort through. Sorry. I don't sense Solo, Elixir or Windchill in the area either. Solo could be anywhere on the planet, taking Windchill and Elixir with him. They're definitely not in the Manhattan area."
Arc seems concerned for Vigil. "Don't overtax yourself. Have you been able to pinpoint Mr. Pride?"
"I'm afraid I haven't. The dust pile his... duplicate became had a distinctly strong psionic signature, and it wasn't his. "
"A telepath boosting with the Hypnoporter?"
"Perhaps. Go see if our associates can track down Glitch. I believe it may relieve some tensions if you were excused from this meeting."
Arc shoots an icy glance at Vendetta, then shrugs in capitulation to Vigil as she heads into the elevator.
"I think it would be best to start with your questions." Vigil says to Shockwave, Vendetta, Oldschool, and Ferine. He nods at Ferine appreciatively. "I could not help but notice you have an affinity for life forces. You would be a welcome addition to our cause. What we face threatens life on this planet itself."

Ferine listens carefully to what Vigil says her mind racing with questions. She asks when Vigil is done talking "Yes I have a few questions, but one important one is...Who are you people?"

Vigil replies, "Who are we? We are the Paladin Institute. Publically we're regarded, if we're even noticed at all, as a self-help therapeutic research group. Some probably dismiss us as some kooky New Age vanity publishing firm, churning out the next wave of cult motivational seminar speakers, faith healers, snake charmers, and crystal ball readers. That's all fine and well, as long as what we really are and really do never comes to light. To put it bluntly, we defend the Earth from supernatural threats and paranormal events using our vast resources quietly, behind the scenes, to track, acquire, and / or neutralize items, artifacts, and technologies that make demonic influences on our world possible."

Vendetta mutters quietly to himself "Great a cross between witchhunters and the men in black - what the hell did I get into this time"

Ferine nods at Vigil and wonders what Vendetta is mumbling about.
"What about that artifact you have here, is it possible to take a look at it?" Ferine says to Vigil "I am really interested in taking a look at it since I know a bit about things like that."

To Ferine's question about the artifact, Vigil replies, "It is a circular black granite slab etched with mystical symbols we excavated in 1883, near the home of the warlock Bartholomew Jacobs, who was burned at the stake in the 1600s. We believe it was used by Bartholomew Jacobs in his incantations and spells to contact a realm of vile demons and force them to do his bidding. Otherwise, it serves as a open doorway. It requires seven amulets to seal, and we have three of them. We have to seal it before Halloween. We moved it here because this building is designed to contain paranormal entities. The towers form a 'tuning fork' that helps us detect extradimensional disturbances. It is how we found the first two amulets. And of course the third one Oldschool and the others brought in around the neck of that frozen assassin. We need Jacobs' grimoire to figure out how to deactivate this artifact permanently, to show us the order the amulets must be arranged once we recover them. The amulets themselves are dangerous, as they bond to people who kill. They have an affinity for agents of death. We believe the local crimelord Hammerhead has come into possession of the fourth amulet, but it hasn't bonded to anyone yet. So, in total we're looking for the Jacob's grimoire, and four other amulets. And we have until Halloween to complete this task."
Vigil continues, "Adding to our difficulties is a faction of HYDRA, using a lost Nazi secret weapon called the Hypnoporter to sow chaos and confusion among the criminal gangs along the East Coast, but the heart of it is here in New York City, fomenting a gang war. Use of the Hypnoporter weakens the barriers between worlds further, and they are already weak as Halloween approaches. The Hypnoporter in theory projects thoughts as physical constructs in the world. That is what we believe is responsible for the appearances of the werewolf and other monsters that have been attacking gang hangouts. The Hypnoporter is projecting these monsters to appear where they do."

"So we should get started then" Ferine says to Vigil "What do we do first?"

Vigil says, "You should pursue the lead we have. Hammerhead. Perhaps since he has sent an assassin upon you, you ought to return him the favor. Not to kill him, of course. But perhaps to gather information under the pretense of making an bold appearance. He owns a club called the Roaring Twenties in a fairly corrupt neighborhood of the Bronx. Crime is pretty flagrant there, even when there isn't a gang war going on. But we have his assassin. If he has an amulet or the book or information on either, perhaps he may trade it for his assassin. Particularly since we have him on video tossing that grenade into the homeless shelter claiming Hammerhead sent him, courtesy of Flashdance's optical implants. Whatever play you make on Hammerhead, you'll be confronting him in his own nightclub. I think that would send him a message. From that confrontation, Glitch will be monitoring his communications once we get him in position and we'll get a bit more insight into his organization. You could probably spook him into slipping up."

Vendetta shrugs "Wether he lives or dies is largely up to him - I dont kill indiscriminately but some people just dont know when to call it quits."

Vigil replies to Vendetta, "I loathe guns, I really do. But I understand it is not necessary to kill with them. For instance, Hammerhead would not require use of his arms and legs to stand trial. But I would prefer that no fight take place at all. Certainly defend yourself if necessary, but the Roaring Twenties club is Hammerhead's personal comfort zone. It may be his business, but it is a public establishment filled with both mobsters and businessmen who otherwise have no criminal records. The authorities have nothing solid on Hammerhead either. You must be wary of your actions, lest you be portrayed in the media and the courts as assaulting an innocent man. And in that neighborhood, even the police understand who's in charge. I'd much rather force Hammerhead to do something stupid than Hammerhead or his minions force you to do something stupid. Something for the headlines in tomorrow morning's paper, to run alongside this whipped-up anti-mutant hysteria. New Yorkers need to feel like someone's doing something about this gang war. If we can get you all in the papers sweating Hammerhead, we'll have a ball to run with. New heroes emerging to fight the criminal filth of the city. This will be your cover. We will try to manage the media impact to favorably reflect your group. But you'll have to make that easy by not blowing up the place with senseless violence. Find out what Hammerhead knows about the amulets, the missing book, and of course Mr. Pride. If anything, if he turns out to not have them, your appearance looking for them will get him involved in tracking them down as we watch him. HYDRA is not the only organization skilled in subversion. Perhaps we can begin playing these gangs to our advantage as well."
Vigil pauses, and then says, "The team will go public soon, it is inevitable. You will need a leader and spokesperson. The Paladin Institute will remain behind the scenes."

Not a problem for me - contrary to what some people here believe of me I am fully capable of working without hurting people unnessesarily.
As for a spokesperson and leader - I dont think I would be a good choice - I do have a reputation of being the guy who gets the answers one way or the other.
As I dont know much about anyone except Oldschool I'd say he gets my vote.
