Arc looks at Vendetta, then at the open bay door of the helicopter.
"You can't fly, can you?" she huffs.
"You all need to appoint a leader or spokesman, and soon. There's no way the press is going to leave this group alone after Windchill attacked them. Not to mention the capes that are going to come out of the woodwork looking for you when that reporter's story and what footage he has hits the news. Might as well try to get in front of it, do some damage control. The Paladin Institute's mission must not be compromised."
Arc is interrupted by Xander, one of the Paladin agents attending to Flashdance. He's got his finger to a communicator in his ear, and has a concerned look on his face.
"Base is reporting something weird. Vigil sent everyone out of Sublevel Six. Nobody knows why. The assassin is still frozen down there. Security footage shows Vigil standing down there after the uh...artifact... went active for a moment. No transients detected, but Vigil's talking to himself. Security wants to know if they should flood the level with knockout gas."
Arc responds "NO! Tell security to stand down. Vigil would not have sent them out if he were in danger. If something strong enough to overwhelm Vigil came out of that artifact he'd have called for backup himself. Tell them to concentrate on securing all entry points into the complex. Can you pull up a video feed from Sublevel Six?"
Xander types a few keystrokes on his laptop and brings up a video display.
On the screen, Vigil is talking to a boy holding a gun.
Arc keys her own communicator.
"Security! What do you mean there's no one there with Vigil? Even the sensors are displaying 11 lifeforms down there. Vigil, the assassin, the eight M-bodies, and that kid with a gun! What do you mean you can't see a kid with a gun? He's right there!"
Oldschool, Vendetta, and Shockwave recognizes the kid, Rin, from the homeless shelter. Oldschool remembers bringing the kid to the shelter after getting free of some strange machine he had been attached to.

Ferine listens to the others argue around her, but her ears perk up at the word artifact remembering what the roma had told her, she speaks up "Artifact.....what kind of artifact are you talking about?"

Arc tells Ferine, "I was hoping Vigil was going to make the presentation. The artifact referred to is a locked dimensional scrying device of some sort, alien in origin. There's so much you all need to know about Bartholomew Jacobs."
Looking at Vendetta again, "That means we have to work together to find that book."

"Not a problem" Vendetta nods "I'm not against working together - just as long as your organisation knows that I put the team before the organisation. And for one reason only - WE are the ones who will have to face the music when the shit hits the fan. That means we can't afford to loose any more people. In contrast to your organistation who can afford to loose as many people as it takes..." Vendetta leans back in his seat and begins to doublecheck his gear once more.

/ooc for the record Vendetta will be the leader of the team if he is asked and noone else wants the job, although he will prefer someone else do it, as he knows most of the team will not like his methods Also I nominate Oldschool or Shockwave for leadership, mainly because they have been part of the team since the start, and they have both got experience with various organisations. Secondly (and this is purely my perception of the group) they are the more seasoned people in the group seeming to be more mature than some of the others. Solo is out as leader for pretty much the same reason Vendetta should not be leader - the rest of the group would not agree with his methods most of the time. Ferine is new to the group and by her own admission could use more experience. Elixir is still a bit green behind the ears, as he is still in Medschool, and Windchill ... well we dont know when he will be back, or even if he will be back, and even if he does get well enough to return - I think Arc would object ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . Flashdance seems like a good guy but he's too goofy to lead even though he has shown he can be serious when he needs to. Anyways just my two scents ooc/

ooc: let's rule out current NPCs as potential team leaders (Renegade, Flashdance, Spellbound, and Windchill) simply because well, I'm playing enough NPCs being the bad guys and innocent bystanders.
=====
Arc fumes at Vendetta.
"You know what you are? You're a public relations nightmare. You and Solo both. The Justice League. The Avengers. The Fantastic Four. Hell take it down to the Teen Titans. You know what they all have in common? Decent relations with the public. And you know why? It's because they don't run around shooting people like raging psychos. You shouldn't be carrying guns at all! Killing has its place and time. You've got a pretty big chip on your shoulder. Gangsters murdered your family and you want payback. I get it. So you want to build weapons and go kick some ass. You want to make war. I can be just as flippant about your losses as you of mine. Maybe we need you while all these gangs are flared up against each other. But these gang wars are a symptom of a much more serious threat. One that the Paladin Institute is best suited to fight. Quite frankly I believe we don't need any of you super-powered mercenaries at all, but the Board of Directors disagrees. We require a public face during this crisis, and that's to be you all. As much as the Paladin Institute must slip out of the shadows to back your team, the sooner we can slip back into the shadows and support you quietly from afar, the better. All we want is the return of the Jacobs grimoire and Mr. Pride. And the destruction of this branch of HYDRA behind it all."

"You know Arc, if you had taken the time to get to know me, instead of listening to intelligence and rumor, you would know that I DON'T go in guns blazing. Yes I have killed people, and I probably will again - but its not my first choice. I only resort to lethal measures if my life, the lives of team members or the lives of innocents are in danger. I never kill those gangbangers who simply surrender, but if they try to kill me then all bets are off. Yes I have a reputation as a hardass who does what it takes to get the job done, but unlike you and the other 'enhanced' people in this business I need that rep to cause fear in my opponents - when they get scared they react in one of two ways. They surrender or they mess up and I can use that to my advantage."
Vendetta shakes his head like he's giving up on trying to explain himself to someone who isn't really listening anyway.

Arc is still peeved, but tries to de-escalate her confrontation with Vendetta.
"Every time you pull the trigger on someone, it makes our mission harder. This situation is bigger than all of us. Let me make it as plain to you as I can. That perp you maimed was a Kick dealer. Now whatever sources and suppliers he had are dried up. Where does a small time gangland bonesaw get the money to finance a Kick dealing operation? That stuff is upwards of $1000 a dose for the pure uncut product. A kilo of it, like what was recovered from the warehouse explosion, is worth nearly a million dollars on the street. We're talking huge players in this. Beyond gangs and terrorists. Intelligence agencies are caught up in this as well. And it's all because someone has the Jacobs grimoire. Bartholomew Jacobs was much more than a simple warlock burned at the stake by superstitious people in the 17th Century. He was from an alien dimension, one that has declared war on our dimension. If that book is not found by Halloween, in ten days, we're all going to wish that giant Galactus thing had eaten our planet back in 2001. That doesn't make sense to you, and it doesn't have to. All you need to know is that finding that book helps us prevent the worst thing that could possibly happen. You all can get to the roots of this, and stop it before it blossoms. The Board of Directors has chosen this path because at the street level, you can find the leads that shut down this madness and keep scrutiny away from the Paladin Institute's other activities in defense of this dimension. I disagree with their decision, and the damage to our organization involving you all could cause. HYDRA has Mr. Pride, one of our board directors! It was his idea to contract outsiders to find the book. If we could figure out that you're John Patrick, so could HYDRA. Fortunately, you never met Mr. Pride so he can't give them information on you."
The helicopter lands atop Angel Tower Two. The power to the upper levels has been restored.
Arc hops out of the helicopter and begins speaking with an armed security guard on the roof as Xander and Robbins rush Flashdance onto the elevator.

"Well we can agree on one thing. None of us like this arrangement, and once this is over, I'm sure we'll all be happy to go our own ways. I'm not a fan of being teamed up with psychopaths and killers. I'm not a fan of large organizations trying to run the show from the shadows. Most of all, I'm not a fan of not being given important information until AFTER it was already pertanent. I feel like we are always playing from behind in this game, and worse yet, I can't even tell who the teams are...the oppoenents or my own team."
As the helecoptor lands, Shockwave begans to walk off back towards the labs to finish repairs.

Otherwise I think I'll catch some shut-eye its been a long day for all of us I think."

Shockwave heads back into the workshop on Level 25 to begin repairing the flight induction systems of the right leg of his armor.
Shockwave reasons that the bullet that penetrated the upper hip section only severed a few hundred filaments of Antarctic and Wakandan Vibranium sheathed by the micro-fluted plastic-ceramic casing. Roughly two cubic inches of both types of Vibranium would have to be spun into filaments and weaved back into the plastic-ceramic molding after it was melted down and remolded back into its proper shape. Thankfully, Vendetta's quick thinking and familiarity with the armor's exoskeletal release servos prevented a total systemic overload from Elixir's prying on it with super-strength. The internal damage is extensive, but not irreparable. Operating on Slade's MATTER theory, the micro-filaments of both types of Vibranium are coiled inside a plastic-ceramic coating that prevents the two metals from coming into contact with each other. This sheath marginally retracts to allow the Antartic Vibranium to liquify the Wakandan Vibranium, which releases massive levels of acoustic waveform energy, most of which is reabsorbed by the Wakandan Vibranium to continue powering the armor's Mach Stem Shockwave generator, the centerpiece technology of the armor that puts MATTER theory into practice. Not only can ambient sound recharge the armor's power systems, the retracting micro-ceramic capacitors can shut off the contact between the Antartic and Wakandan Vibranium, and the liquified Wakandan Vibranium filaments will resolidify, molded back in shape by the fluted ceramic sheathing itself. It's a highly efficient self-powering armor system. It just perhaps needs a bit more reinforcement. The lightweight plastic armor is strong, it just can't hold up to high caliber projectile weaponry.
Shockwave determines that salvaging bits of Wakandan and Antarctic Vibranium from non-essential systems in the armor will yield enough filaments to bridge the gap in the right upper hip module, and the restoration and remolding will take around 2 hours with the right equipment, which thankfully is present in the workshop.

Arc says, "I'm going to go see if Vigil is ready to brief you all, barring any more crazy mutant attacks." She gives off a sense that she hates her current assignment, and leaves the heroes in the workshop area.

Vendetta walks over to Ferine rxtending his hand in greeting "I'm Vendetta, I'm sure they will set you up with a room in the building like they did for the rest of us - that is if you are interested still - this is 'our' engineering bay, below us are the rec-rooms and our humble accomodations. These guys are Oldschool and Shockwave - the young man who was slightly aggitated when you tackled Windchill is Elixir, and the other guy with the taser was Solo. The pms'ing lady with the charged personality is Arc - she's the one who tells us what this organisation wants us to do - unfortuantely they arent very forthcoming with the information..."
He motions Oldschool over to the two of them while he waits for a response from Shockwave to his earlier offer.

Ferine shakes Vendettas hand, though raises an eyebrow at his description of Arc. Ferine says "Just call me Ferine." Ferine stands there looking around and wishing she could get a look at the artifact that the pms'ing lady (Ferine smiles to herself) Arc was speaking about.

Oldschool steps over and introduces himself after Vendetta.
"Hey, sorry about that. Never even introduced us. Thankfully Vendetta's brain actually functions around pretty women. I'm Mike. Mike Sherman or Oldschool, if you prefer. I'm the team punching bag. Glad to have you aboard."
Oldschool pats Vendetta on the back and goes to try and figure out where Reen is. He had more than a a few questions for the youngster.
He goes to the elevator and will try to find the level Reen is on.
