Renegade stepped away from Oldschool's containment unit, a glass-like box filled with swirling gases and reinforced with thick steel bands.
After dispatching a hooded man dressed in green, Renegade had returned from the shadows to Oldschool's side when he noticed Oldschool stirring. Perhaps his efforts to deactivate the machine by cleaving its circuitry with two-dimensional Darkforce escrima sticks he had been able to awaken the man his master Stick had telepathically guided him to.
The massively muscled man thrashed against his enclosure....
=====
Oldschool was kneeling on the floor, shards of reinforced glass and steel scattered around him. A few electrodes dangle from his forehead. His NAPA Auto Parts shirt is torn, but otherwise still snug on his massive frame.
Rin is helped to his feet by a man in yellow and midnight blue with a letter "R" emblazoned on his chest who introduces himself as "Renegade."
Renegade helps Oldschool to his feet, and also introduces himself to him.
Renegade quickly explains that he knows Oldschool's teammates and that his sensei, a man called "Stick" is still captured in the machine at another site somewhere, and guided him to this site telepathically before he lost contact with him. He states that there are many sites scattered throughout the area networking captured people's minds. This machine projects them as physical forms in the real world and that it is equally magical and technological, and seeming controlled by a faction of HYDRA.
Renegade points to the HYDRA agent he knocked out.
Oldschool notices that the toolbelt he had earlier is missing, as if he only had it in a dream of being an internet cafe. Except that the kid from the internet cafe that was tugging on his arm is here.
Oldschool marvels at the shattered steel on the floor.
Renegade remarks, "You're stronger than you look. Where are you from? My master Stick says you're 'not from this world or any other' but all I saw is you turn into some kind of blue-green alien looking creature for a moment before raging out of that box. It was hard to tell with all those weird gases that were in the container. But the weirdest thing is..." as he points to Rin, "is that you pulled this guy out of thin air when you broke out of that containment pod."

Another place.
An unknown place where anything could happen. Anyone could do anything. When Renegade tries to help Rin up, Rin rejects the mans arms' by pushing them away, and quickly scooting back. This man could be here only to hurt him, and he had to get away. The man could be lying about this entire thing. One could never know if someone was lying. Though he does remember the conversation between Renegade and.... Stick? Maybe he could trust him, but then again, maybe he couldn't.
Shortly after pushing away from the man, he hurriedly tries to get to his feet, though he is off balance. He sprints to the nearest corner, falling and tripping a few times, before arriving at this destination. He curls up into a ball and studies the room, breathing heavily as fear encompasses him in its grasp.

Renegade tries to calm Rin. "Easy guy. Nobody's going to hurt you, you're safe here. At least with us you are." Then he wonders aloud to Oldschool. "This pod was part of a network of machines that project thoughts as physical entities into the real world. They can transport matter back, or create it from thin air and imagination, or so Stick explained. So, either you brought this kid here from wherever you were projecting, or... the kid is a creation of your thoughts or the machine itself. Seems real enough to me. Really scared." ooc: and Rin's mysterious origins continue... ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png)

Fear of the dark. The unknown.
Renegade himself was dark, as was the big man. They pulled him to a strange place and are threatening his life with their presence, because he tried to help.
Help...
He should have listened to the 'fun' voice this time. He's been siding too much with the 'boring' voice lately, and now he ended up in a life or death situation. He would have to make it up. But how....and when?
He silently stared at Renegade as he spoke, and progressively quit breathing heavily. After taking in his last deep breath, Rin warily watched the two of them. He slowly stood up, his entire weight leaning against the wall, until he had his legs underneath himself. He then pushed off from the wall to began to walk, calmly now, around the area, looking for anything that could possibly be useful. Perhaps a weapon, or maybe other equipment that he could use in some way. Even checking the body of the HYDRA agent on the ground (after 'accidentally' tripping over his face). After gathering everything he could, he put all the stuff into a pile near the two men and observed what was there.
// I mean ANYTHING, besides obviously useless stuff, like a paper clip & such and nothing to help just me. I am trying to hopefully find clothes or another cool belt for Oldschool. \\
The only thing he could do was listen and prepare to defend himself from these two. He couldn't only rely on his powers, they were...different. He had to appease these two so that he can further himself towards his goal...
Goal?

Renegade watched as Rin pilfered through the dark and dusty warehouse, and chuckled a bit as he stumbled over the HYDRA agent's face.
Digging through the HYDRA agent's bandolier straps, Rin finds a Glock 9mm pistol, a set of Allen wrenches, a blank plastic card with a magnetic strip, and keychain USB flash drive.
Renegade eyes Rin carefully. "I don't think you'll need that gun where we're going."
Renegade turns to Oldschool and says, "Last time I saw the rest of our mutual aquaintances, we were at some homeless shelter on the Lower East Side. Apparently Count Nefaria's goons attacked looking for you. Then some guy named Vendetta showed up covered in blood... not his, and Spellbound cast some sort of spell with the blood that made us relive some guy named Windchill's fight alongside you and the others against some kind of robots. After that fight both you and Windchill went missing. I met your friends in a fight at Starky's Pool Hall, you know the place. Hangout of the Buzzcuts, the anti-mutant bigots. Monsters attacked us there and my master Stick was captured. Anyway, after all that hapened, Spellbound cast some sort of spell on the blood and the group was able to locate Windchill. I separated from them to investigate the old BatBoys hangout to see if I could find any signs of Stick when he telepathically guided me to you this morning. I'm sure they're all back at the homeless shelter, or at our new HQ, waiting for me to return. They're probably going to be glad to see you."
Then turning to Rin, Renegade says, "that machine I destroyed said you were a mutant. I'm a mutant also. Seriously, we're on the same side. I know it's probably weird being pulled here by this strange experience, but you're safe now. You got a name?"
Inside Rin's head he hears the voices argue.
**Trust them, Rin**
**Follow them, for now.**

Mutant. A 'different' kind of person.
So that is what a 'machine' determined him as. Rin still doesn't know the actual term's meaning that Renegade uses, but has a basic idea. He was different, but so was every other person he met in his life; well, maybe not as different as him, but still...
The gun, a weapon that could kill the normal person, if shot in the right place. A tool of destruction no doubt, and Rin believed it to be too powerful for him, but you had to have something to back you up just in case. He shoves the gun carefully into his coat's right pocket so it's, for the most part, easily accessible. Rin tried to 'conceal' his taking of the weapon when Renegade turned his back to talk to Oldschool. The 'adult' spoke, and said he didn't need the gun.. so it was Rin's.
The wrenches, equipment to build or otherwise demolish something. Rin had no knowledge of how to do either of these activities with this device (or the gun for that matter), and decided that it might be more useful to one of the others besides himself.
The two misc items, a card and a device of some sort. They seemed to be the least important to him out of all of the items, but then again, the most important. Even the tiniest things make a difference, and Rin's learned this through experience from accusations from other people when he stole something. Minor details he forgot to hide, and he paid dearly for it (The people chastising him did, anyway). He decided to keep these, and shoved them both in his left jacket pocket.
The man.. Renegade... really seemed to want to make contact with Rin, though he couldn't figure out why. He even used the 'different' term, which would explain his unusual abnormalities, as well as Rin's. But, as far as being on the same side, Rin was sure that he was.... for the moment. One sudden action from Renegade would cause Rin to defend himself; that itself would cost him dearly. For being safe, no one was really safe, ever. Something could happen at anytime, like being pulled through the air into an unknown place, as these two explained.
When asked for his name, he simply stated one word.
"Later..."
A hint of agitated-ness emanated from the single word he said so blankly.
Following them for now I shall.

Renegade turned to Rin once more and leaned over and whispered, "I can see though shadows like they are my own eyes. Including the darkness inside your pocket." He winked at Rin, not letting on to Oldschool that he knew Rin had taken the gun. "It's cool. Just don't try anything crazy. Don't know if our big friend here is totally free of this weird mind control contraption he was in."
Speaking up as Oldschool continues to shake off the buzz of sedatives, Renegade says "You both ought to head on out of here. I'll meet you back at the shelter later. I want to be here when this guy wakes up and discovers that you broke out of that box. See if I can find a new trail to pick up."
At that, Renegade's form turns into a silhouette and blends with the shadow cast by the HYDRA agent laying on the floor.
From the floor under and around the HYDRA agent, Renegade's voice emerges along with a shadowy hand that becomes near solid and fleshly enough to produce a couple of NYC Transit bus passes. Renegade says, "Catch the 10. It should be coming around the corner soon."
ooc: proceed to Chapter 9, coming soon...

Transportation. Something that moves you from point A to point B.
Rin learned a single equation that he could apply to anything that has to do with transportation, even walking. Transportation=Money
The fuel for cars, the passes for busses, or even the food after the walk. It all cost money, and Rin has never handled money, so he didn't know how it worked. He had a general idea from his experience of watching others use it, but other than that, no.
So, Rin chose to leave the big man to handle the bus passes, or money. Rin immediately began to look for an exit, opening a door he thought to be one. When he finally found one, he looked outside to confirm it to be the same time of day it was at the cafe. After that, he slipped outside and leaned next to the exit, giving him his privacy and the two men theirs, and he waited for the large man.

The shadow on the floor that is Renegade's silhouette form spoke to Oldschool as Rin waited outside.
"Somehow that kid disrupted the link between your mind here in your body and the projection there at the coffee house. If we can figure out how he did it we might be able to free the others. Keep him safe. He seems rather... detached."

Oldschool stood quietly as Renegade spoke, trying to digest what was happening. He didn't understand much of anything here and it was beyond frustrating to a man of science. Magic was an 'x-factor' that seemed beyond the restraints of physics. How it could be blended with technology was more than frightening.
There was something else bothering the big man.
"What did you say about me appearing other than I am. You said I looked like a blue or green alien? What was that all about?"
As he waited for Renegade to respond, he examined the machine, looking for an interface. He needed to understand the machine. Innocent lives were at stake if what Renegade was saying was true. Maybe there was a way to shut the entire system down or barring that, maybe there was a way to find out where the other stations were.
He needed to grasp what was going on. Shockwave was a learned and intelligent man, perhaps between the two of them, they could shut these stations down or atleast take the offensive in this war.

"Yeah, big, almost reptilian, with blue-green colored scales. It happened when you were being shocked by electricity. The steel bands you broke free of were electrified. Other than your flesh changing into that, you seemed to get stronger in that form," Renegade explains. "You mean to tell me you have never seen that before?"
Then Renegade says "I wish we had time to talk, but you're going to miss the 10. Another bus doesn't come for two more hours, the 12. I'll catch up with you later."

Oldschool nods and takes one final look at the strange machine, trying to remember as much as he can before he leaves. Not fully satisfied, but aware that time is important he leaves the room to join the young man instrumental in aiding his escape along with Renegade.
Oldschool emerged from the building and looked for the youngster. When he finds him he leans and kneels with his back against the wall. As he talks he pulls electrodes from his head and skin.
"I don't know how you got mixed up in this son, but I apologize. Hopefully no harm comes from it. Anyway, I wanted to thank you for helping me. I don't know for sure if I've truly escaped that machine, but if I did, I need to get back to my friends. I've been gone too long and I worry that the homeless shelter might have suffered in my absence."
Oldschool takes a good look at the young man before continuing, "normally I'd tell you to get as far away from me as possible. I draw trouble like a magnet and right now I'm in pretty deep. I'm used to fighting crimes involving shoplifting and purse snatching... assault, that sort of thing, but this... this is different. There's evil going on that has forced me to reconsider my perception of it. I wonder how the Avengers and other heroes deal with this on a day to day... Anyway, I'd hate to leave you in this neighborhood and you look like you could use some food, so why don't you come with me to the Shelter and get a meal in ya? Then we can figure out how to get you home to your parents..."
Oldschool stared down the street looking for the bus as he waited for the youngster to talk.

What were... parents? No, that was the wrong terminology. He had a basic idea of what they were; beings that watched after you and taught you life lessons, or so what he picked up from the people always popping the question. What was so important about these 'parents', that it was required of him to go to them? He could manage on his own, and he knows what he needs to know to survive. To him, these beings would only just get in the way. He didn't even know what they were, and if he possessed any of these. Though, he knew he was missing facts about the subject. Everyone tried to explain to him what was to be a 'family', and continued on talking about an emotion called love. Another term he was unfamiliar with. Both of these terms seemed related, but how? Lost in deep thought as his mind wanders about this subject, Rin shifts his weight from right to left, then left to right continually, rocking back and forth. This man, out of many, has offered him something, and food was something good. Rin was shocked by this fact, he never knew a man could express such a kind act. And on top of that, he apologized AND thanked him, another first for Rin. As these realizations hit him, he quit moving about, and turned his head to his side then up-wards to get a good look at the man. Moments ago, he hated this man for almost killing him, but now... now he had gone beyond what anyone has ever done for him in his life. He was truly different. The man also talked about himself being a trouble magnet. Rin himself would cause trouble, and this didn't surprise Rin in the least bit. Everyone was always in trouble, some more than others. It seemed that these two had something in common; no one would leave them alone. Rin admiration for this man grew even more, though he did not know why. For once in his life, Rin felt something that he never felt before; he felt like he existed. He only existed with this man around, a man who has acknowledged him and offered him something no one else has ever offered him: a sense of purpose. Rin doesn't know how he knows this, but its more of a feeling that explains this major event in his life. Rin completely turned his body to face the giant man, his detached-ness gone. Rin calmly pointed to himself with his right hand, never taking an eye off of the big man, and said at a slightly below average audible level. "Rin" //Pronounced -Reen-, like Reed, without the 'd' and has an 'n'.\\ He then points to the large man with the same hand, and his facial expressions almost seems to talk out to him, as if asking what his name was. Again, he ended up following his boring side, by trusting this man. Though, he felt he wouldn't regret it this time. No, he knew he wouldn't. Rin thought this man to be a parent.

To Oldschool's hypersensitive ears, the word couldn't have been clearer had it been shouted. He sensed the significance in both the young man's name and his body language and was careful to show it the weight of thought it deserved.
The youngster was clearly shell shocked. Who wouldn't being teleported in such a manner. Even understanding half of how it happened didn't settle his nerves. He needed to keep the kid talking and bring him back to reality. It was the least he could do.
For all those who cannot defend themselves... a defender, and all those in need of vengeance... an avenger. Children are to be protected and shouldn't fear to walk the streets of New York City... their parents shouldn't have reason to fret while they do. I will clean the streets up, one criminal at a time, one crime at a time, until there is no need for me to do so anymore. Oldschool values in the 21st century...
After nodding his understanding, Oldschool smiled softly. "A good name, Reen."
"I'm Mike," he said carefully, "Mike Sherman... like the tank. The media calls me Oldschool because of some comments I made about bringing oldschool values back into the world..."
Oldschool chuckled. "I'm rambling... talking too much. I've a lot going through my head, right now. Alot to sort through..."

Rin could be understood by this man; Oldschool was truly trustworthy.
Rin simply nodded when Oldschool said what was on his mind. Many things have happened to Rin in such a short time, and he couldn't even imagine what happened to Oldschool. The best he could do was to allow the man to think of something else rather than his problems.
Rin faced the street again, and scooted closer to Oldschool, about a foot a way from him. He remained quiet as they waited for the bus.
