Battle of the Brutes

Imagine, if you will, a tournament of Brutes or Bricks in the same vein as when the Champion (and Elder of the Universe known for his combat ability) challenged Marvel Earth. In the original, fighters were challenged by the Champion to defeat him. All challengers were either disqualified or beaten save Ben Grimm (AKA the Thing) who the Champion kicked the crap out of but felt he could never truly defeat the Thing's spirit.

What I'd like to do here is reimagine who would be invited to such an event if it happened here in the TasKverse. There'd obviously be more than a few DC characters, but I'd like to see characters more Brute (Great strength, some body resistance like the Thing) than cosmic (AKA Superman/Thor). Additionally, what villains should be invited?

Once we've decided on who, then we can have a tournament with these heavyweights. Maybe we'll hold a draft and roleplay it out in round-robin style.

If I could, I'd like to settle on 16 fighters (with the top four going on to test themselves against the Champion). 16 fighters makes for the best tournament. This will be no-holds barred MMA style rules rather than Boxing.

Depending on how this goes, I would like to do several tournaments including a Normal Human (Black Panther, Wildcat, etc.), an Altered Human/Mutant (Spiderman, Storm, etc.),and a Cosmic (Thor, Superman, Green Lantern) tournament.

Nice additions! We'll soon have to set up some parameters as there's already quite a range of heavyweights suggested. Could you imagine Doc Samson vs Doomsday, lol. If we decide to go this route, we'll have some obvious mismatches and clear favorites from the get go... which is cool too.

Only physical attacks...
No flight or other travel powers other than hyper-leaping...
No Body Armor/Resistance greater than Mn75 (that way even the low-end guys/girls have a chance to win)

I'm fine with the guidelines above, just a couple of comments:

1. I'd like to only see one version of the shared characters, like Hercules for example.

2. I'd allow characters with movement powers, but they shouldn't have any attack mode (e.g. hyperspeed), and failure to engage the opponent is grounds for disqualification.

The second point is kind of long, but it allows for Namor to use his wings and for example charge an opponent, but prevents the silliness of someone hovering above ground and trying to drop boulders on a ground bound foe.

Agreed.

I'd also like to have like 5 round battles (otherwise the first round of the tournament will take 40 years). At first I was thinking like 3 rounds and then fighters are scored on the damage they dealt to their opponent verses the damage the recieved as a ration with the winner having the better ratio.

Furthermore I've come up with a list of combatants that will be (poosibly) available for the draft. If you don't see someone that should be there, post it here and we'll try to make it happen. Or, if you see someone here that shouldn't, let me know your views. Right now we have 24 combatants which makes for an awesome tournament (how it breaks down). I was thinking 'Double Elimination' (you keep fighting until you've been eliminated twice).

Technically this could be "retro" as the original Contest of Champions was one of the most recent "events" in the MSHG timeline before the Gang Wars game started. I know we're just beating ass and not role-playing here, but perhaps we could take some of the fights here and reference them as having actually taken place before the Gang Wars game started.
