Vendetta nods and steps back outside. "I understand and respect that, but i really need to find Oldschool and his friends - I Have information about another firend of theirs, who had a runin with some organ harvesters. Or at least thats what it looked like when i found him on a 'pirate' operating table."
Vendetta then unhosters both pistols, walks over to his bike, and locks them away in a storage compartment. <I hope I'm not going to regret this> he thinks to himself as he turns back to the older man.
"There - can we step inside now, so we can talk in a bit more privacy?"

Or at least thats what it looked like when i found him on a 'pirate' operating table." Vendetta then unhosters both pistols, walks over to his bike, and locks them away in a storage compartment. <I hope I'm not going to regret this> he thinks to himself as he turns back to the older man. "There - can we step inside now, so we can talk in a bit more privacy?" Jenkins puts his broom down and leads Vendetta inside. Once inside, Vendetta sees prominent bullet holes in the walls and ceiling of the homeless shelter. Someone had shot up the place, but it appears that no one was hurt. "Wait here," Jenkins says as he leads Vendetta to a fold-up dining table with steel chairs. Jenkins leaves and returns with a shoebox full of Oldschool's belongings, mostly notebooks with rather detailed technical drawings and newspaper clippings about himself. Vendetta sees one newspaper article with a photo of Mike Sherman (Oldschool) standing with Tony Stark, James Rhodes, and John Patrick (Vendetta) shaking hands and posing with the helmet of a Mandroid Mark III power armor, celebrating the signing of a contract that eventually fell through, destroying Sherman's business and ending the partnership Patrick and Sherman once had. The split was amicable, but Vendetta had not seen Mike Sherman in a couple of years and only recently discovered with the rest of the world that he is the hero Oldschool. "Ah, here it is." Jenkins pulls out a small address book and goes to a phone on the wall. After a brief conversation, he returns to the table with Vendetta. "They should be here shortly, if not any second now, as fast as they appear and disappear..." ===== At around 9:20 pm, Flashdance recieves a phone call. It's Jenkins, Oldschool's friend from the homeless shelter. He says there's a guy with guns claiming to have information, looking for Oldschool and the rest of the team.

Spending his free time working on the dreadnoughts, Shockwave actually spends more time deconstructing them than doing any construction. He strips the various weapons off of them, making them far less of a threat should something go wrong during the rest of his work once they are powered up. I'll have to figure out where to get some replacement weapons for these. Something far less lethal. Sleeping gas should be a good replacement for that freon...the same lines and delivery system should be sufficient to support it. Those flames need to be replaced too. Using some of my sonic technology set to stun, they should be able to give quite a surprise. The spike delivery system should easily be replaced with rubber projectiles. It would pack some punch, but I'd rather not have them killing. I wonder if Old School has ever worked on stun rays in his weapons research? Gamma Rays have to go. Lowering the power of the electrical field, it should work more like a taser than electrocuting anyone. I'll have to make sure that one is tested thoroughly before reinstalling it.
Once the weapons were dismantled from all three, the "brain" units were removed. The hive mind part of the system would be worth taking a closer look at. Although the quickest way to upgrade one of them would be to combine all three units, the hive mind being further researched might be a better idea. Is there an override somewhere to take control of all of them? AIM? Maggia? HYDRA? Even if the weapons are out, can't chance putting these things back online with that possibility out there. We'll need to build new AI units. Maybe these can be studied and used to track down who these belonged to though.
By the end of the day, the dreadnoughts are in pieces, and it looks like things are going backwards, not forwards when it comes to having units running.

Shockwave easily dismantles the Dreadnoughts and disarms them. Someone really, really smart designed the custom-ordered hive-brain circuitry in these Dreadnoughts. There doesn't seem to be any remote control circuitry to govern the robots behavior externally. They will simply attempt to fulfill their programming in the most efficient way possible, with better calculating of efficiencies with more of them networked into their hive mind. ooc: of course because bad guy intelligent robots are so much fun, it may surprise someday with "Because human minds are notoriously inferior to the computational speeds achievable by even a pocket calculator, I had determined that it is 94.7% likely that my programming was flawed due its source from a relatively less capable organic being. Considering this likelihood, I took the liberty of deleting several unnecessary subroutines that were hampering my processing power. You will be pleased to discover that I have improvised a way to greatly reduce the workload of searching for criminal suspects among the general population of Manhattan by reprogramming the North American Air Defense Command to launch twelve nuclear missiles at the city. If you go to the window now, you should be able to witness their arrival."

Elixir sighs inwardly as he listens to the stupidity around him. "So monsters attacked Hank's Tavern and killed the band? I knew it was a rough place, but daaayam!"
"Yeah it was messed up, I got saved by a mutant called Windchill who froze this guy dressed up like Frankenstein's Monster." "Hey, I feel bad about people suffering from the mutie disease as much as anyone else, but remember Dr. Hank McCoy was one of us before messing around with mutant cell cultures. Look what it did to him. Turned him all ugly, blue and furry."
"Yeah. Definitely need a hazmat suit for that kind of work." "You jerk, it's not contagious any more than Down's Syndrome is. I was saved by a mutant there!" Elixir remembers that there was something he wanted to get done before heading back. He heads over to the campus print shop to get a whole bunch of business cards printed that read "I was saved by a Mutant!" Elixir.

"Looks like someone did their homework on these. Hmm... no override isn't a good idea though. We'll need that before putting them back online."
Shockwave proceeds to start designing a remote shutdown and figuring what parts would be needed to implement it. "Maybe a backup system would be even better...a command word so that any one of us can shut them off, and then maybe a frequency that will override in case the commands aren't getting through."

Evan's argument with the jerk in his frathouse about mutations being no more a contagion than Down's Syndrome is met with the scorn and sarcasm of the engrained bigot. "Yeah, let's give Down's Syndrome victims guns powerful enough to knock Superman into orbit and claim they have the right to use them. Look at the TV, Evan. The world is going crazy with people infected with the mutation disorder. It rots their brains, makes them irrational. The explosion of crazies with superhuman powers in the last 15 to 20 years is a threat to humanity. This mutants are people too crap isn't going to save us. Mutant rights? What next? I want to threaten the world with stolen nuclear weapons because I can warp magnetic fields rights? Where does it end? It's bad enough that the World Court recently absolved that terrorist Magneto of his crimes. Even that monster the Hulk got a presidential pardon recently. We're setting ourselves up for a rude awakening, an age of apocalypse."
Before it ends, the conversation degrades to namecalling, mostly refering to Evan as a "mutie-lover," but others in the frat house take Evan's side. Though many of them are unconvinced that mutants are born with their powers rather than infected with some unexplainable disease, they are cautious not to stereotype mutants as murder-crazy powermad lunatics that should be feared and discriminated against rather than helped.
Evan goes to the campus print shop, and his order of "I was saved by a mutant" business cards is met with mostly laughter, as many see it as a joke to spark controversy. But while he's there, a nervous-looking guy with a rough voice hands him a flyer for a pro-mutant counter-protest and demonstration rally coming up next month and asks Evan to attend. The demonstration is sponsored by a group calling itself "the Acolytes."
Evan makes his way back across Manhattan to the Angel Towers building to meet up with the other heroes. Shockwave is busy dismantling the Dreadnought robots.
Around 9:20 pm, Flashdance recieves a call from Jenkins at the homeless shelter, asking all the gathered heroes to show up and meet someone claiming to have information about Oldschool and Windchill.

Shockwave notes the modifiable design of the Dreadnought's computer processing and operating systems can be fitted together to make one "smarter" robot, and coupled with an artificial intelligence circuit like a S.T.A.R. Labs Ultra-C processor, possibly upgraded to develop a personality and voracious appetite for learning. From there, strict behavioral programming can be encoded, as well as override circuity installed.
Installing an Ultra-C processor might even prove less expensive than acquiring the Wakandan and Antarctic Vibranium necessary to build sonic weaponry for the robot.

9:00 PM - "The Muddy Boot"; The self-advertised "Only true Hill-Billy Hangout" in all of New York:
Still in full uniform, Flashdance is sitting on a rust-legged, torn up barstool, along with 6 of his new closest friends: Joe-Bob, Boog, Doug, Hank Williams (although Flashdance is pretty sure that guy gave himself that name... the poser's stetsin doesn't have any dents in it) and two other guys that are just listening but haven't offered up names.
He takes a swill of his PBR
"...SO THEEEERE I WAS!!!Hip-deep in sweat, blood and tears, fighting off 30 gang-bangers. I quickly took'em down by banging their heads together like a couple of coconuts and running rough-shod through the rest in a flurry of kicks, punches and knees. Then it happened; the damn werewolf showed up again, but this time with 6 of his vampire buddies and 2 Frankensteins (oh yeah, and some hot chick covered in shadows, but I don't hit the ladies). It was then and there I knew that place was about to get hotter than a 2 fer 1 whore house on nickel night."
Flashdance pauses and take a dramatic swill of his beer.
The guys I was with git scared. I kept my cool though. There was this one feller that I saw turn in to metal and I told him - how about you turn into silver, and I'll swing you like a bat! SCARED WITLESS, he knew a real leader when he saw one. Quicker than a couple of Day Flys in heat he threw his arms to his side and turned into a silverbat. That's when I picked him up, stared down each of the werewolfs in the eye, and said in a low hissing voice... Let's Dance!"
**Just then the batphone rings** " 'scuse me boys; I gotta take this "
"Oh, hey there Jenkins! I was just telling some guys about how we; oh, what? You might know where Oldschool and that kid Windchill are? Yeah. I'll call the guys now and head over."
**Turning back to his new 6 best friends**
"Sorry fellas, duty calls; a couple buddies of mine need rescue'n!"
With that he throws 200 in cash on the bar.
"Jake - that last round was on me and the rest is a tip!"
Then, all of the sudden, Flashdance is gone, teleporting away towards the homeless shelter, calling the rest of the team on the way.
OCC - Flashdance is still throwing around money like he's rich and hasn't counted it in some time ;-)

Solo was in the backround listening to all the magical mumbo jumbo. It did make a little more sence to him, but he was no Doctor Strange or Dr Fate by no means,"So how can I get rid of this thing, have your paladin buddies figured that out yet. Solo caught the glimpse of the costumed crimefighter who called himself Renegade, while he was talking to tommy. Solo didnt like it, he was feeling uncomfortable with the judgemental looks of people," What are you looking at?", he said in a confrontational manner. This new guy thought he was really special.

Arc sympathizes with Solo's plight. "Mr. Bourne," she starts, "or do you prefer Solo? We're still doing research on Bartholomew Jacobs, and the significance of that medallion with the stolen book. Apparently the medallion is a necessary component of controlling the book's magics. How you came to be 'chosen' to wear the medallion after teleporting through the strange chemicals in the warehouse explosion that brought the medallion here from the spirit world is unknown. Forgive me for saying this, no offense intended, but it may be because of your violent tendencies that it is attracted to you. You haven't killed anyone since acquiring it, have you? That too might trigger a closer bond between you and the medallion. I don't suggest it, given that Bartholomew Jacobs is seeking to return to life. A violent person that can be anywhere with a thought or can heal from any mortal injury would be an ideal host for that evil spirit."

Tommy Bifrost meanders around the halls of One Angel Tower, bored out of his mind, finally setting down to watch the 9 o'clock news.
MORE MONSTER MURDERS!!
Last night New Yorkers were shaken by yet another monster attack. The incident occurred at a Lower East Side pool hall called Starky's. According to police, the establishment is a gang hangout of a local neo-fascist anti-mutant group called the Buzz Cuts.
It certainly is living up to its reputation, for last night a large brawl took place. Witnesses reported seeing a number of super-powered individuals, including new local heroes Flashdance and Shockwave fighting monsters, possibly mutants or users of the power-inducing 'Kick' designer drug.
Witnesses also attest to have seen 'Frankenstein' and a creature cloaked in darkness. Until they have a suspect in custody, police refuse to speculate about these strange beings. It appears a SHIELD task force has been assigned to assist in the investigation of this attack. But it may in fact be a mutant attack upon the Buzz Cuts anti-mutant extremists.
When asked about monsters in his city, Mayor Bloomberg had only one thing to say: 'Hogwash!'"
Tommy Bifrost sarcastically quips, "Man, they don't know jack about anything!"
Then Tommy receives a phone call from one of his friends, and chuckles "I'll meet you there."
Tommy shrugs off any insistence that he remain with the group. "You circus clowns are lame. I'm up out. My boy Razor just woke up in the hospital, so I'm gonna go see him."
He scrawls a cell phone number on a piece of paper and leaves it for the heroes, and says "Look, I want to help you all find my mother. I don't care about no damn book or helping you trash anyone but the Faces of Fear gang. Y'all really need to sweat Hammerhead, he's the one behind all this. He's the master of making others take the fall for him. For now, I got things to see and people to do, so... later."
Tommy leaves. Shortly after he leaves, the heroes recieve a phone call from Flashdance telling them to go to the homeless shelter.
