"...shortly after returning from the off-world funeral of the recently deceased Captain Mar-Vell, the Fantastic Four was seen departing the Baxter Building in their 'Pogo-Plane' heading east over the Atlantic Ocean. Responding to questions concerning superhuman involvement in international affairs, SHIELD Director Nicholas Fury issued a statement reporting that the FF are journeying to the African nation of Wakanda at the request of King T'Challa himself. Diplomatic tensions remain high in the aftermath of the coup in Markovia, particularty at a time when the monarch of the neighboring state of Latveria has invoked the Freedom of Power Treaty declaring any metahuman involvement against the coup in Markovia will be pressed as an act of war by all signatory countries. Doom, who has had his diplomatic immunity violated by the Fantastic Four several times in the past issued a statement via satellite broadcast before the United Nations General Assembly two days ago after Baron Bedlam toppled the government of Markovia and installed himself as ruler. "The raging gang wars along the East Coast escalated with last nights bombing of a warehouse belonging to Count Nefaria, an Italian nobleman allegedly a syndicate boss of the fractured East Coast Maggia. The warehouse was found to be filled with the mutagenic drug known as Kick. SHIELD recovered approximately 10 kilograms of the highly dangerous substance, with the assistance of a few superheroes who were battling robots that were firing upon cars that passed them on the streets. Among the heroes spotted were the robot Shockwave, the highly entertaining Flashdance, and former weapons designer Mike Sherman, also known as 'Oldschool.' The heroes vanished into thin air shortly after the arrival of SHIELD agents. Count Nefaria has not been charged with any crimes at this time, pointing at possible Asian shipping companies as sources of importing the drug into the New York City area."
"...in other news, the carnage of alleged 'monster attacks' struck a pool hall hangout of the anti-mutant activist Buzzcuts gang late last night. Buzzcut gang members report being attacked by a mutant supremacist group calling itself the 'Faces of Fear.' Gang members turned over a mutant detector prototype to investigators, with the stored biometric signatures of five mutants present during the attack. Though mutant detectors have not been issued to law enforcement officials pending funding authorized by the Mutant Registration Act making its way through Congress, the Lexcorp / Shaw Industries manufactured devices are already finding their way into the black market from Genoshan sources. Lexcorp founder and CEO Lex Luthor issued a statement decrying the mutant attacks and urging rapid passage of the MRA. Luthor went on to say 'Mutants suffer from a rare genetic disorder that causes physical disfigurement and sociopathic behavior. All suffering from this horrible disease should be regarded as extremely hostile and often psychotic. They should be located and quarantined until a cure is found as a matter of national security...'"
