Hearing Hydra brought up seems to get Shockwave's attention. "Hydra is likely the most powerful subversive or terrorist group in the world. World domination types. They have quite a few run ins with SHIELD. They seem to have almost limitless resources, advanced technology, and a large supply of agents. If someone was capable of this projection machine that we are theorizing, they would be a good candidate."

(OCC - in keeping with the character, FD isn't really keeping track of the money he's going through. He took 1000.00 with him this morning and gave it all to the person he found. It's very possible he will find he went through all his cash in short order...) ooc: Arc gave Flashdance "a couple thousand dollars" at the start of the adventure. $2000 -$100 / night Best Western -$200 tip to Greta -$10 12 pack of PBR -$1000 donation to homeless shelter ------ Flashdance has around $690 left back at his motel room.

Spellbound says, "I do know that the Werewolf, the Frankenstein's Monster, and Dansen Macabre are members of a group called "Night Shift" that operate on the West Coast / Los Angeles area. For that matter, wherever this machine is that Shockwave and Flashdance saw when they disappeared could be in California. Or if HYDRA is involved, it could be anywhere on the planet. Regardless, something was manipulating them. Well, maybe not Dansen Macabre. She's not exactly a pleasant person, ever. But Frankenstein's Monster is childlike, not a rampaging monster usually. And Russoff, the Werewolf, it just seems unheard of that he'd go full lupinoid when it's not a full moon." "As far as gangs targeted by attacks monster or otherwise, my dad was a cop, and he taught me things about the local 'fauna' before he was killed. The Crimson Smiles used to work for the Gotham City Joker, but he's locked up in the funny farm. The Broad Daylight Killaz are rumored to be loyal to the Nefaria crime family. The Gutter Pirates are loyal to the Silvermane crime family. The Flashing Blades are loyal to Hammerhead's family. And those Bat Boys, I thought that gang had faded away into obscurity."

"Thanks for the background Spellbound. So, nothing really in common between the gangs attacked by the monsters, yet. Spellbound, since both you and Windchill have connections with the Police, do you think we might be able to examine the knife? I'd like to look at it under a microscope to see what's there."
"I'm guessing that the projector is local, or else, why target two gangs here in NY? If they could have picked them in different cities it would be even harder to draw any connection between the incidents."

Spellbound says, "We definitely don't have all the pieces, but lets see what we do have..." Spellbound makes some arcane gestures and a table diagram made of eldritch light appears, hovering in mid-air in front of the heroes framed within wisps of orange smoke On the diagram, are two columns, "Attacked by monsters" and "attacked by driveby shooters" Under the column "Attacked by monsters" appears the words: Crimson Smiles / Joker's old gang Flashing Blades / affiliated with Hammerhead's familyUnder the column "Attacked by Driveby Shooting" appears the words: Gutter Pirates / affiliated with Silvermane's family Broad Daylight Killaz / affiliated with Nefaria's family"And we know the driveby shootings against the Gutter Pirates and Broad Daylight Killaz in Central Park were done by the same people, using a car allegedly stolen from one of Hammerhead's businesses." "Perhaps we need to look into the other driveby shootings that have occured since the Central Park shootings. See who's been hit and if the shooters have been identified. That might prove difficult considering some may be retaliatory strikes between rival groupings, but it certainly looks like the Maggia families are being hit at the street-soldier level. Doing a driveby shooting with a car stolen from Hammerhead, targets the other two Maggia families. "

"We also know evidence was conveniently left at the museum specifically implicating Hammerhead when the book was stolen. We had a feeling that was too conevnient at the time, but combined with the fact that one of his gangs was victim to a monster attack makes it look even more like a setup. It's very evident that the different gangs and families are now going to war with each other. It simply leaves one question to me. Did one of them start all of this to make a move for some reason, or is an outsider instigating things to either make a move on territory or make for one collossal distraction? With most major hero groups off planet, this is the perfect time to pull off something big, and get a good head start before the "big heroes" return. With the gangs going to war with each other, the police, and whatever other heroes are left will be distracted. This leaves an organization like HYDRA an awful lot of room to operate without interference."

I'll probably have him make a voluntary green feat roll of some type to see if he realizes how fast he's going through it. If he makes it, then he catches himself. If he fails, well, the good times will keep on rolling! Bad habits like spending don't get broke easily

ooc: Flashdance - that $690 remaining stands between the price of things to buy and making personal Resources FEAT rolls with Flashdance's Resources rank, which appears to be "flat broke" Shift Zero rank. Might make for some side fun teleporting one of the Paladin Institute bean counters up a flag pole when they come around with their pointy pencils and clipboarded expense reports. They're definitely going to have to start paying Flashdance a monthly income once he's a full-fledged field agent for them
In preparation for the next scene, I need Solo to make an Endurance FEAT roll and Oldschool to make a "background noise" Hyper-Hearing Intuition FEAT roll with his RP dialogue post while talking to the gathered heroes, the results of which will come up... soon

Windchill says, "I've only helped the police stop some purse snatchers and muggers before. Nothing like moving up to the level of fighting gangs of street thugs or taking on the Maggia. Not sure how I'd go about asking the cops to allow us to walk in and examine that knife recovered from Hank's. With Spellbound's dad being a cop at one time might help, but the secret identity aspect of this superhero business... maybe one of us could dress up like Captain America. He's popular enough to get by on his word, I'd think, and how would they know the difference? Oldschool, how do you get by with the media knowing who you are?" [ooc: ]

"No kidding, I shudder to think of someone I've crossed in the course of being a hero finding out who I am and where my loved ones are..."

"And we can't exactly go to the Maggia families and tell them they're being played against each other, if they even are. Still, it's curious why someone would steal a magical book as powerful as Bartholomew Jacob's grimoire and try to pin it on Hammerhead. I know even displaying that book openly in the museum was asking for trouble from the spirit world. Which again, isn't exactly something the occult community could get the museum to take seriously." Spellbound looks around, wondering how many of the heroes gathered actually believe in magic. "Whoever has the book is either endangering themselves, know how to use it to create chaos upon the material world, or both. Bartholomew Jacobs' mad legacy of evil is legendary, at least in the pagan community. If someone knows how to use it, we're in for hell, literal hell, a lot worse than gangs fighting for turf. With Samhain coming - Hallowe'en - I shudder to think what someone could do with that book when the barriers between the spirit and material worlds are at their weakest."

"Not as well as I'd like, Windchill," Oldschool remarked. "It's not something I ever really considered until just lately. Like you, I've been dealing with some pretty low level stuff... never big league stuff like this. I had a visit from Hammerhead himself today while his men delivered a huge donation to the shelter. It's very sobering to consider that the people we fight know where we live..."
Oldschool told the group about his meeting with Hammerhead.

"Hammerhead came here? He must really be feeling desperate."
So the Maggia knows about the shelter...but that wasn't exactly kept secret. It means I should be a lot more careful though. If I got tracked back to my apartment, or even worse, back up to Saratoga Springs, that could be a big problem. This whole superhero thing just keeps getting more and more complicated. At least with SHIELD there were safe houses and contacts to turn to in order to keep family and friends out things.

After hearing Oldschool recount the story of Hammerhead's visit and implied threats, Windchill gets visibly angry. The air around the heroes starts getting noticibly colder.
Too many innocents have died in this madness. If Hammerhead wants a war, he's got one now.
Windchill takes on a hostile, nearly malicious tone. "This won't do. This won't do at all. Hammerhead doesn't have the right to do that. As far as I'm concerned he doesn't have the right to beg for mercy! I friggin' dare him to beg for mercy! WHERE does he live? Whatever happens from here on out, Hammerhead is getting taken down, permanently..."
